MSP Reports for Calvert County


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Sept. 12, 2008) - The Prince Frederick Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE: On Aug. 28 @ 12:08 pm, troopers from the Prince Frederick Barrack, conducting a warrant sweep, responded to a residence on Overlook Court in Dunkirk. Joyce Louise Dillow, 37, was arrested on open warrants through Pennsylvania. She was charged as a fugitive from justice. Pennsylvania authorities were notified and Dillow was placed in the Calvert County Detention Center pending her extradition to Pennsylvania.

FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE: On Aug. 28 @ 12:30 pm, Trooper First Class Dawson responded to 8th Street and Chesapeake Avenue in North Beach for the report of a disabled vehicle. Upon arrival, TFC Dawson observed a tractor-trailer vehicle partially stuck in a ditch. The driver was identified as Michael Luis Averta. Averta was found to have open warrants in New Jersey. He was placed under arrest and charged as a fugitive from justice. New Jersey authorities were notified and Averta was placed in the Calvert County Detention Center pending his extradition to New Jersey.

POSSESSION OF SUBOXONE PILLS: On Aug. 31 @ 1:28 am, Trooper Donaldson stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Route 261 south of 13th Street in Chesapeake Beach. The driver, identified as Shawn Michael Thomas, 26, of North Beach, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. A search revealed that Thomas was illegally in possession of several Suboxone pills. A passenger, John Andrew Stone, 26, of Chesapeake Beach, was also placed under arrest and charged with possession of drugs. Both subjects were transported to the MSP Prince Frederick Barrack for processing and later incarcerated in the Calvert County Detention Center.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On Aug. 31 @ 7:13 am, Corporal White stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Route 4 at Lower Marlboro Road. Upon contact with the driver, Corporal White detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana. The driver, Wanagi Alon Gordon, 26, of Manassas, Va. was placed under arrest. He was transported to the MSP Prince Frederick Barrack for processing and later incarcerated in the Calvert County Detention Center.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On Aug. 31 @ 4:14 pm, Trooper First Class Dawson stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Gunsmoke Trail at Pawnee Lane in Lusby. The driver, Chanese Lachelle Matthews, was found to be operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license. Matthews was placed under arrest and taken to MSP Prince Frederick for processing. A secondary search at the barrack revealed that Matthews had concealed a hand-rolled marijuana cigarette on her person. Matthews was charged with driving while suspended, and possession of CDS. Matthews was taken to the Calvert County Detention Center to await a hearing with the District Court Commissioner.

POSSESSION OF COCAINE, THEFT, FLEEING AND ELUDING POLICE: On Aug. 31 @ 11:44 pm, Trooper Donaldson stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Route 231 west of Route 4 in Prince Frederick. After stopping briefly, the vehicle attempted to flee and turned on Mason Road. The occupants of the vehicle were throwing items out of the window. The vehicle was stopped on Mason Road. The driver, Herbert Gaylor Niles, 44, of Port Republic, and the passenger, Phillbert Wayland Freeland, 40, of Lanham, were both placed under arrest. Niles was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The items thrown from the vehicle were located and identified as cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Both Niles and Freeland were charged with possessions of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Additionally, Niles was charged with having stolen registration plates on his vehicle. Both subjects were taken to the MSP Prince Frederick Barrack for processing and later incarcerated in the Calvert County Detention Center.

POSSESSION OF COCAINE: On Sept. 1 @ 11:24 pm, Corporal White stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Fairgrounds Road in Prince Frederick. The driver, identified as Robert Parnell Grimsley, Jr., 50, of Springfield, Va., was found to driving with a suspended Virginia driver's license and placed under arrest. A search revealed cocaine paraphernalia in the vehicle. A passenger, identified as Donn Edward Thomas, 50, of Owings, was also placed under arrest after he was observed attempting to hide something in the door handle of the vehicle. The item was discovered to be an additional piece of drug paraphernalia. Both subjects were transported to the Prince Frederick Barrack for processing and later incarcerated in the Calvert County Detention Center.
