Leonardtown School Campus Lockdown Lifted

Search uncovers no one is nearby woods; police will maintain on-site presence remainder of day

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Sept 3, 2008, 2:00 p.m.)—The Code Red lockdown at the Leonardtown School Campus has been lifted as of 1:35 p.m.

Police searched the wooded area by the schools, where a caller told Walden Sierra suicide hotline staffers he planned to kill himself, using K-9 dogs and personnel, but were unable to locate anyone, according to Dfc. Cindy Allen, Public Information Officer, St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.

Police received the 9-1-1 call made by the Walden Sierra staffers at 11:25 a.m. this morning, according to Allen.

Allen said police plan to maintain a "high police presence" at the campus for the remainder of the day until all students are safely on their way home.

All after school and evening activities at all three schools (middle school, high school, and tech center) have been canceled for today.
