Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (Sept. 2, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

DRUG POSSESSION: On September 1 at 4:30 p.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer responded to the area of Livingston Road and Skyline Drive in Bryans Road for the report of a white van stuck in a ditch. Upon arrival, the officer was advised by citizens that the vehicle had left the scene, at which point the officer observed the vehicle turn onto northbound Indian Head Highway from Livingston Road. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Officer D. Almassy investigated.

FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT: On August 30 at 11:58 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 2900 block of Sandwich Drive in Waldorf for the report of an assault in which a weapon was involved. Investigation revealed the victim and suspect were inside a house when they began arguing. During the argument, the suspect produced a handgun, placed it against the victim's head and threatened her. The victim was able to flee from the house when the suspect removed the gun to light a cigarette; she immediately notified police. Officers recovered a fully loaded revolver and arrested the suspect, Ronald Lee Coffey, 37, of Waldorf. He was charged with first degree assault and remanded to the Charles County Detention Center. The victim was not injured. Officer J. Walter investigated.

FATAL ATV ACCIDENT: On August 30 at 11:55 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 14500 block of Banks Odee Road in Newburg for the report of an ATV accident. Investigation revealed the victim, Lashana Nicole Wilson, 24, of New Jersey was visiting the residence and began riding an ATV. As she rode on the paved driveway leading to the house, she swerved, lost control and struck a tree. Wilson - who was not wearing a helmet- was flown to a hospital where she died the following day. Officer K. Borders handled the initial investigation.

ARMED ROBBERY: On August 29 at 2:04 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to Stride Rite shoes located in the Festival Shopping Center in Waldorf for the repot of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed an employee of the store was approached by a white male wearing a baby blue bandana across his face. The suspect demanded money and displayed a handgun. The victim complied and the suspect fled. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as a white male, 20-30 years old, approximately 5'11", and a medium build. He was wearing a black shirt, a blue bandana and a baseball cap. The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.

INDECENT EXPOSURE, DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On August 25 at 7:05 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to Jameson Court in Indian Head for the report of a nude male acting disorderly in the street. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect, Terry Morris Johnson, 39, of Indian Head, in the parking lot Charles Couth Landing. Johnson was arrested and charged with indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. He also had an open warrant for failing to appear in court for a previous charge. Officer J. Freeman investigated.
