LA PLATA, Md. (Aug. 21, 2008) - The La Plata Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.
UPCOMING SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS: The La Plata Barrack will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols from August 21, 2008 to September 1, 2008, for the Labor Day weekend. The goal for these checkpoints is to reduce the number of drunk and drugged drivers on Charles County roadways during the holiday weekend. Citizens can report suspected drunk and drugged drivers by dialing #77 on their cell phone. This is a free call that is connected to the closest Maryland State Police Barrack.
ILLEGAL DRUGS: On August 16, 2008, at approximately 0303 hours, TFC J. Edelen was traveling northbound on Hamilton Road, when he stopped Roy Daniel Browning, 23 years, of Waldorf, for a traffic violation. When speaking with Browning, TFC Edelen observed marijuana residue on his shirt. A probable cause search revealed a plastic baggie containing marijuana. Browning was arrested and charged with did possess a controlled dangerous substance marijuana and did use drug paraphernalia.
DUI, ILLEGAL DRUGS: On August 16, 2008, at approximately 1952 hours, Trooper B. Sorenson was dispatched to an accident which occurred on northbound U.S. Route 301, south of Substation Road. Upon arriving at the scene, contact was made with Melanie Hall Luce, 55 years of Ormond Beach, Florida. Trooper Sorenson detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath. Luce was arrested for DUI. A search incident to arrest revealed a 1/5 of Kettle One liquor and a wood in construction CDS smoking device, and marijuana. Luce was also charged with did possess a controlled dangerous substance and did possess with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
DUI, FALSE STATEMENT: On August 17, 2008 at approximately 0129 hours, Trooper J. Wilson was on routine patrol traveling northbound on Leonardtown Road, north of St. Charles Parkway when he stopped Stephanie Nicole Toye, 20 years of Mechanicsville, for a motor vehicle violation. Upon contact with the driver, Trooper Wilson smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. Toye was arrested for driving under the influence. Toye was also charged with knowingly and with the intent to deceive, make a false statement to a peace officer concerning her identity/address/date of birth.
