MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Aug. 13, 2008) - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

RETAIL THEFT FROM JC PENNEY: On Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 1:34 pm, Tpr C. Evans responded to the JC Penney Store in the Wildewood Shopping Center for the reported Theft over $500.00. Upon arrival, contact was made with the female complainant who advised two females were observed stealing items from the store. The complainant attempted to stop one of the females as she exited the store with several articles of clothing. A lookout was given for a dark green passenger car with Maryland registration. The vehicle was later stopped on Rousby Hall Road in Lusby. The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Paula Ann Houghton, 42, of Lusby and Joyce Amanda Hamilton, 52, also of Lusby. All merchandise which was stolen from the JC Penney Store was recovered during the traffic stop. Both subjects were taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center were they were charged accordingly. Once at the Detention Center, a secondary search was conducted of Ms. Hamilton's purse and she was found to be in possession of a women's silver cross which was stolen earlier from Belk Department Store. Prescription medications were also found in her purse. The medications are as follows: 30 Hydrocodone pills, 75 Phendimetrazine pills, 7 Phentermine pills, 2 Methadone pills, 4 Trazadone pills, 2 Oxycodone pills and 13 Diazepam pills. Ms. Hamilton was charged with possession of prescription medications not prescribed to her. Both Ms. Houghton and Ms. Hamilton were detained pending a bond review.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE: On Friday, August 1, 2008 at 4:00 pm, Tpr. J. Gibson responded to Cheseldine's Car Wash in the 22000 block of Mercedes Drive in California for the reported Theft over $500.00. Upon arrival contact was made with the male complainant who advised unknown suspect(s) stole a Garmin Street Pilot 2720 TGPS system from his silver 2006 Dodge Charger. The investigation continues.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Friday, August 1, 2008 at 8:40 pm, Edward Arthur Kelii Morasch, 50, of Lexington Park was arrested by Tpr. G. Thompson for possession of Marijuana and possession of a CDS smoking device. Mr. Morasch was operating a silver Ford Bronco when he was stopped on Willows Road in Lexington Park for an equipment violation. Contact was made with Mr. Morasch and a mild odor of burnt Marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. Mr. Morasch was found to be in possession of a small baggie of Marijuana and a red metal smoking device. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

DWI/DUI, ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 1:08 am, Mary Jane Barnard, 64, of Lexington Park was arrested by Tpr. M. Adams for possession of Marijuana and possession of a CDS smoking device. Ms. Barnard was operating a red Ford Ranger when she was stopped on Route 235 at Poplar Ridge Road in Lexington Park for speeding. Contact was made with Ms. Barnard and a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected while speaking to her. Roadside sobriety tests were performed unsatisfactorily and she was arrested for DWI/DUI. A routine MVA check revealed her driving privileges were suspended. A search incident to arrest revealed Ms. Barnard was also in possession of a cellophane bag of Marijuana and a glass CDS smoking device. She was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where she was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review.

BURGLARY: On Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 3:46 am, Tpr. E. Page responded to the reported Burglary in the 38000 block of Beach Road in Coltons Point. Upon arrival, contact was made with the male complainant, 63, who advised unknown suspect(s) broke into his residence while he was asleep. The suspect gained entry through a side door by prying the glass from the door and exiting through the front door. The complainant advised when he was awakened, he realized someone had been in the residence and both locks were locked on the front door when he went to bed. Nothing was observed missing from the residence and the investigation continues.

VHICLE PLATE THEFT: On Sunday, August 4, 2008 at 12:03 pm, Sgt C. Tyer received a phone call at the Leonardtown Barrack from a male complainant, 70, of Hollywood who advised unknown suspect(s) had taken the Maryland registration plate from his 2000 Long trailer. He advised he last saw the registration plate on July 21, 2008 when he left Fenwick Island in Delaware. The registration plate has been entered in MILES/NCIC and the investigation continues.

CELL PHONE THEFT: On Monday, August 4, 2008 at 12:01 am, Tpr. N. Gresko responded to the 26000 block of Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville for the reported Theft over $500.00. Upon arrival contact was made with the female complainant, 30, of Drayden who advised an unknown suspect stole her black LG Voyager VX-1000 cell phone with a serial number of A000000C647FDA, valued at $545.00. The investigation continues.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Monday, August 4, 2008 at 3:00 am, 16 year old male of Great Mills was arrested by Tpr. E. Page for possession of a CDS smoking device with marijuana. The juvenile was a passenger in a black BMW 740IL when the vehicle was stopped on Chancellors Run Road in Great Mills for failing to stop at stop sign. The driver, also a 16 year-old juvenile from Great Mills was arrested by Tpr. E. Page for driving without a license. After speaking with the juvenile's mother he was subsequently charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle. He was transported to the Leonardtown Barrack for processing. Both juveniles were later released to their parents pending further action by Juvenile Services.

DOP: On Monday, August 4, 2008 at 7:18 am, Tpr. G. Thompson responded to the 26000 block of Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville for the reported Malicious Destruction of Property over $500.00. Upon arrival, contact was made with the male complainant, of California who advised unknown suspect(s) damaged the Pepsi machine and took approximately $60.00 from the machine. The investigation continues.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 2:40 am, Stephen Dean Andrews, 52, of California was arrested by Tpr. M. Pitcher for possession of Cocaine and CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Andrews was operating a black Nissan truck when he was stopped on Route 4 in California for failing to drive in a single lane. During the course of the traffic stop, contact was made with Mr. Andrews and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath. Mr. Andrews was given roadside sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI/DUI. Mr. Andrews was transported to the Leonardtown Barrack for processing. A secondary search resulted in the recovery of a pill box which contained a green plastic straw with cocaine. He was later transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained and charged accordingly.

RETAIL THEFT: On Friday, August 8, 2008 at 4:16 pm, Regina Charlotte Bonds, 45, of Lexington Park was arrested by TFC R. Rezza for Theft under $500.00. TFC Rezza responded to the Belk Department Store for the reported Theft in progress. Upon arrival, contact was made with the female complainant, the Loss Prevention Manger, who had Ms. Bonds detained in the Loss Prevention office. The complainant advised she had observed Ms. Bonds remove several pieces of jewelry and hide them on her person and attempted to leave the store after paying for other merchandise. Ms. Bonds attempted to steal four pairs of earrings, one bracelet and three necklaces with a total value of $234.98. Ms. Bonds was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where she was detained pending a bond review.

WARRANT ARREST: On Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 4:55 pm, Gary Wayne Spaulding, Jr., was arrested by Tpr. G. Thompson on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13528) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Leonardtown on July 25, 2008. The original charge was Driving on Revoked and Suspended License. Mr. Spalding was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

WARRANT ARREST: On Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 9:55 am, Raymond Stanley Morgan III, 21, of Leonardtown was arrested by Tpr. N. Gresko on an Arrest Warrant (T3-13547) issued by the District Court in Leonardtown on August 1, 2008. The original charge was Assault 2nd Degree. Mr. Morgan was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

WARRANT ARREST: On Friday, August 8, 2008 at 3:30 am, Cory Lee Miller, 22, of Lexington Park was arrested by Tpr. C. Evans on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13551) issued by the District Court in Leonardtown on August 5, 2008. The original charge was Failing to make Deferred payment for CDS possession. Mr. Miller was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

WARRANT ARREST: On Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 4:15 am, Jawaan Montell Carroll, 23, of Mechanicsville was arrested by Tpr. M. Pitcher on an Arrest Warrant (T3-13274) which was issued by the District Court in Leonardtown on January 31, 2008. The original charge was Driving While Suspended and Elude Police Officer and Flee on Foot. Mr. Carroll was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.
