PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (July 24, 2008)—The Calvert County Department of Economic Development announced on Wednesday that Mark Volland has joined their staff as public information specialist.
Volland, a 40-year resident of Southern Maryland, comes to the Department after a six-year career with the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) as a communications manager. His duties will include communicating the activities of county departments and Board of County Commissioners initiatives and serving as a point of contact for news media.
I developed a deep appreciation for Calvert County and its people when working as a reporter in the county, Volland said. I am grateful for this opportunity to come back and tell the countys stories from a new perspective and find new opportunities to share county agency information with the citizens of Calvert County. Its a special place and I look forward to the challenge.
Volland holds a bachelors degree in journalism and government from the University of Maryland University College. He worked as a reporter and editor with The Recorder newspaper of Calvert County and as a communications specialist with Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative prior to his position at CSM.
Mark comes to us with outstanding experience to meet the demands of this new position, said Linda Vassallo, director of the Calvert County Department of Economic Development. Calvert County is lucky to have someone with Marks writing, design and public relations skills to support the countys communications efforts.
