LA PLATA, Md. (July 24, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: On July 23 at 2:45 a.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer responded to the 3900 block of Chicamuxen Road for the report of a suspicious person. When the officer arrived, he observed a woman sleeping inside a car. As he approached the car, the woman, Penny Ann Bowie, 34, of no fixed address, began shouting and struck the officer. She was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer. Officer E. Weaver investigated.
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On July 23 at 1:10 p.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer was advised of possible drug activity in the 3000 block of Marshall Hall Road. The officer approached the suspect who fled on foot after throwing down a large bag of marijuana; he was apprehended a short distance away. The suspect, Geoffrey Alan Whitt, 19, of White Plains, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. Officer S. Duley investigated.
BURGLARIES: On July 21, Charles County Sheriff's officers arrested David Lynn Witter, 50, of Waldorf, in connection with four burglaries that occurred at businesses on Industrial Drive in Waldorf. Officer R. Christian responded to one of the break-ins that occurred in May and obtained latent fingerprint evidence which was later linked to Witter. Detectives from the Property Crimes Unit charged Witter with three counts of burglary, theft over $500.00 and rogue and vagabond. Detective Y. Austin investigated.
