LA PLATA, Md. (July 7, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
CITIZEN ARMED ROBBERIES: On July 7 at 5:51 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 6000 block of Thoroughbred Court in Waldorf for the report of a citizen armed robbery. Investigation revealed that the victim was walking to her car when the suspect approached, displayed a gun and demanded money. The victim complied and the suspect fled.
At 7 a.m., officers responded to the 6200 block of Wolverine Place in Waldorf for the report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim said she was putting her purse in her car when the suspect approached, displayed a gun and demanded her purse. The victim screamed and the suspect fled toward a wooded area; he did not obtain any money.
Both victims described the suspect as a black male who was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt and a black bandana; he was armed with a gun. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for the tip that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspects.
ARREST OF FUGITIVE: On July 6 at 10:13 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 4700 block of Strauss Avenue in Indian Head after receiving information that Avery Dexter Posey, 44, of Indian Head, was at that residence; Posey was wanted for failing to appear in court for traffic related offenses. When officers arrived, the occupants of the house said Posey was not there. Officers observed Posey inside the house, made entry, and arrested him without incident. One of the residents, Eric Stephen Adams, 34, of Indian Head was charged with hindering; charges are pending against another resident. Posey was remanded to the Charles County Detention Center. WARRANT ARREST: On July 5 at 9 p.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer observed a traffic violation on Rivermont Drive in Waldorf. As the officer initiated a traffic stop, the driver fled to the intersection of Rivermont and Fowler Court. The driver jumped from the car and fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away. The driver, Anthony DeWayne Hill, 39, of Waldorf, had open warrants including one for child support. In addition, he was charged with fleeing and eluding and driving with a suspended and revoked Maryland driver's license. He was remanded to the Charles County Detention Center. Officer J. STABBING: On July 2 at 6:52 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 5800 block of Hammerhead Court in Waldorf for the report of a stabbing. Investigation revealed the victim, a 17 year old Waldorf resident, was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect, a 22 year old male from Waldorf. During the fight, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. The suspect fled and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries. Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant charging the suspect with first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment and carrying a dangerous weapon. Officer C. DRUG ARREST: On June 30 at 11:55 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers initiated a traffic stop in the 4500 block of Strauss Avenue in Indian Head. The driver of the car refused to stop and drove toward Indian Head Highway. As officers followed, they observed the driver throw a plastic bag from the window. The driver, Derrell Lamont Garrison, 21, of Indian Head, was stopped at Prospect Road and Indian Head Highway where he was arrested. Officers in the area recovered the bag which contained over 40 smaller bags of suspected crack cocaine. Garrison was charged with possession with the intent to distribute and traffic offenses. ARMED ROBBERY: On June 29 at 9:49 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the Sunoco gas station at 8144 Leonardtown Road in Hughesville for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed that two suspects entered the business, displayed guns and demanded money. The victim complied and the suspects fled.
The suspects are described as black males in their twenties. One suspect, who is about 5'10", was wearing camouflage shorts, a black tee shirt, and a red bandanna over his face. The second suspect is about 6'0" and was wearing a black, long sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and a black ski mask. The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
