Eddi G. Barrientos Ibanez, age 21 of Lexington Park, was charged with two counts of negligent homicide by auto while intoxicated on Monday. He is also suspected of being in the U.S. Illegally.
Police say that on Saturday around 7:10 p.m., a 1998 Ford F150 pickup operated by Ibanez was traveling west on Bay Forest Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to negotiate a left hand turn and exited the west side of the roadway sliding sideways into a large tree. The vehicle continued on, striking another tree head-on and eventually coming to rest in the roadway.
Zaydia Garcia Chavel, age 18 of Waldorf, and Hose Esuin Leon Guerra, age 28 of Waldorf, were flown to Prince George's Shock Trauma and are listed in stable condition.
Ibanez was flown to Prince George's Hospital for observation of minor injuries before being taken in custody by sheriff's deputies.
Local police are currently working to determine if Ibanez is in the United States illegally. According to Deputy Cindy Allen, Public Information Officer for the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, Ibanez was fingerprinted after his arrest and those fingerprints have been transmitted to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in order to make a determination as to his citizenship status.
Ibanez is currently being held in the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending an appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
