LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 29, 2008) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department yesterday released the following incident and arrest report.
ASSAULT & DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On June 27 at approximately 4:45 a.m., deputies responded to a residential burglary in progress in the South Essex neighborhood of Lexington Park. Upon arrival Deputy First Class Sarah Lacy located Leslie Ann Almberg, age 27 of Leonardtown, in the area of the burglary. Dfc. Lacey approached Almberg and asked her if she lived in the area to which she responded no. Almberg was asked if she had friends who lived in the area to which she responded
no. Almberg could not provide a reason for being in the area for the time of night. Dfc. Lacey noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage upon Almberg's breath and person, and also noticed that she had trouble maintaining her balance. Almberg was told she was being detained until Deputies had an opportunity to investigate the respective burglary. Almberg became belligerent and stated she was leaving. Dfc. Lacey placed her hand on Almberg's shoulder at which point Almberg turned and attempted to hit Dfc. Lacey. Dfc.
Lacey arrested Almberg for assault. Almberg became even more belligerent
and yelled obscenities. As deputies tried to place Almberg into the patrol vehicle she resisted and refused to put her feet into the vehicle so the door could be shut. Deputy Kevin Meyer was assisting Dfc.
Lacey. As Deputy Meyer attempted to secure Almberg in the vehicle, she struck
Deputy Meyer in the head with her head. Almberg also kicked Sgt. Christopher Medved. Almberg's
struggle caused the window to the patrol vehicle to be dislodged from its track. Almberg
was finally secured in the patrol vehicle and transported to the Detention
Center. Almberg was charged with 5 counts of assault, failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer, public intoxication and destruction of property.
