LA PLATA, Md. (June 24, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ARMED ROBBERY: On June 22 at 8:10 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the report of an armed robbery that occurred at 3 a.m. in the 6000 block of Peccary Street in Waldorf. The investigation revealed the victim, an 18-year-old Waldorf man, was about to enter his vehicle after leaving a party when he was approached by a male suspect who brandished a gun and demanded his money. The victim complied and the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was described as a black male wearing dark clothing and a black bandana covering his face. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777 or Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Officer J. Riffle is investigating.

INTOXICATED DRIVER: On June 22 at 1:38 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Stoddard conducted a traffic stop on an Oldsmobile for a traffic violation. His investigation revealed the driver, Bernard, Jerry Fleming, Jr., 34, of Indian Head, was intoxicated. Fleming was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released pending a court appearance.

ARMED ROBBERY: The Charles County Sheriff’s office is investigating a robbery that occurred June 21 at 8:30 p.m. The victim, a 19-year-old Waldorf man, was walking on a path in the 5700 block of Springfish Place in Waldorf when he was approached by two suspects who brandished a handgun and demanded his money and cell phone. The victim complied and the suspects fled the scene in a small, older-model sedan with Washington, D.C., tags. Foster is investigating.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On June 21 at 7:10 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Sir Douglas Drive in Bryans Road for the report of a robbery. The investigation revealed three young males punched and kicked the victim and attempted to steal his bicycle. They fled after a concerned citizen who happened upon the assault came to the victim’s aid. The suspects were later located and identified as males, ages 11, 13 and 14, of Bryans Road. They were charged with attempted robbery and second-degree assault and were released to their parents. Officer M. O’Shields investigated.

DRUG ARREST: On June 21 at 5:55 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Cpl. C. McCue responded to the 400 block of Trefoil Place in Waldorf for the report of a suspicious vehicle and possible drug activity. Upon arrival, Cpl. McCue found Lunden Rashad Blake, was in possession of marijuana cigars. When the officer confronted Blake about the drugs, Blake assaulted the officer and fled on foot. A lookout for Blake was broadcast and officers found him hiding in the bed of a pickup truck. Blake was arrested and a search revealed additional marijuana. He was charged with assaulting a police officer, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

DRUG POSSESSION: On June 18 at 2:35 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer J. Timko stopped at the Wawa located at 11505 Berry Road in Waldorf to further investigate a previous incident. When he exited his vehicle, he smelled the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from a Lincoln Navigator parked nearby. When he attempted to approach the vehicle, it pulled off and drove onto Western Parkway. Officer Timko returned to his police cruiser, pursued the Lincoln and stopped it at the intersection of Western Parkway and St. Patrick’s Drive. When he approached the Lincoln, he again smelled burnt marijuana. The occupants exited the vehicle and the officer observed two marijuana cigarettes on the floorboard and marijuana flakes scattered throughout the backseat and floorboard. The drugs, which had an estimated street value of $45, were recovered and the occupants of the vehicle — three 17-year-old Waldorf boys and a 17-year-old Waldorf girl — were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were released to their parents.
