LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 16, 2008) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On June 15 SDFC. Todd Fleenor, along with other deputies and members of the Maryland State Police, responded to Leonardtown Elementary School in the area of the basketball court for a fight in progress call. The fight involved approximately 25 to 35 individuals. Witnesses report the altercation started as a verbal dispute over a basketball game which escalated into a physical altercation. SDFC Fleenor and other officers attempted to quell the altercation and told numerous individuals to step back and stop inciting the crowd. Two individuals identified as Laura Ann Thomas, age 22, and Sherry Lynn Wood, age 26, both of Leonardtown were asked at least five times to leave the area. Both refused the Deputy's direction and continued to incite the crowd. Both were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer.
UNDER AGE TOBACCO ENFORCEMENT: On June 13 between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM Senior First Class Deputies Emory Johnson and D. Ross along with a 17-year-old confidential informant conducted an under-age controlled buy for tobacco the southern end of St. Mary's County. Seventeen establishments were visited.
Clerks at two of establishments were issued citations for making a sale of a tobacco product to a minor. The establishments which failed the compliance check and made sales to the under age informant were: The Fast Stop in Leonardtown and Piney Point Market.
The establishments which passed the compliance check and did not sell tobacco products to the confidential informant were: The A&W in Callaway, Abell's Tavern, W J Dent and Sons, Russell's Store, Bob's Sunoco, Beacon Liquors, The Corner Store, Rod N Reel, Hermanville Sunoco, Buzzy's Country Store, Raley's Store, The Country Store in Medley's Neck, Cook's Liquors Park Hall, St. James Deli and St. Inigoes Mini Mart.
