12 Co-conspirators Previously Convicted
GREENBELT, Md. (May 30, 2008) - U.S. District Judge Roger W. Titus sentenced Kevin Darnell Dyson, age 36, of St. Mary’s City, Maryland, on Wednesday to 14 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute and possess cocaine and crack cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to his guilty plea, from at least 1999 and through March 23, 2006 Dyson obtained cocaine from sources in Maryland, New Jersey and other locations, converted some of the cocaine into crack, and then sold crack and cocaine to customers. The cocaine was stored and “cooked” at locations in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, including a residence owned by Dyson’s mother.
On March 20, 2006, agents intercepted calls made by Dyson detailing a shooting in which he was involved. St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office detectives determined that a shooting had taken place between Dyson and two unidentified individuals who had broken into Dyson’s residence. The detectives recovered a Rossi .44 caliber revolver from the residence.
On March 23, 2006, a search warrant was executed at Dyson’s residence and he was arrested. A Remington 12 gauge shotgun, 12 gauge ammunition and cocaine residue were recovered at his home. Another search warrant was executed the same day at a home used by Dyson to store and cook cocaine and agents recovered two Remington shotguns, 43 rounds of .44 caliber handgun ammunition, 25 rounds of .38 caliber ammunition and a digital scale.
During the course of the conspiracy Dyson was responsible for the distribution of five kilograms or more of cocaine and 50 grams or more of crack cocaine.
Twelve other defendants have pleaded guilty to their involvement in the drug distribution network, including Terry Barba, age 36, of Newark, New Jersey, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison; Edwin Elton Johnson, age 33, of Lexington Park, Maryland who was sentenced to 86 months; Corey Butler, age 35, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, who was sentenced to 84 months; Terrance J. Brooks, age 25, of Leonardtown, Maryland, who was sentenced to 78 months; Tavoy Summerville, age 29, of Lexington Park, who was sentenced to 70 months; William Somerville, age 30, of Leonardtown, who was sentenced to 57 months; William L. Barnes, age 25, of Lexington Park, who was sentenced to 44 months; Paul Bibeau, age 54, of Ridge, Maryland who was sentenced to 46 months; James L. Saunders, age 55, of Park Hall, Maryland, who was sentenced to 41 months in prison; and James Mora, age 53, of St. Inigoes, Maryland, who was sentenced to two years probation, including three months of home detention with electronic monitoring and was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
Vanessa Holloman, age 31, of St. Mary’s City; Joseph Milburn age 40, of Lusby, Maryland; and Wendell Ford, age 44, of Lexington Park also pleaded guilty and are scheduled to be sentenced on May 29, June 12, and July 10, 2008, respectively.
