COPS IN SHOPS: On 05/16/08 between the hours of 5 and 9 p.m., Senior Deputy First Class Emory Johnson and Corporal Christopher Morley of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office conducted a "Cops in Shops" operation at Cook's Liquors in Park Hall. Cops in Shops is an under cover operation where police officers in plain clothes pose as customers or store employees in liquor establishments in order to detect underage persons attempting to purchase alcoholic beverages.
During the operation six subjects were checked for proper identification and were of legal age to purchase alcoholic beverages.
Additionally, Corporal Morley observed a passenger in a pick up truck drinking from what appeared to be a beer bottle. Closer investigation revealed the bottle to be a Michelob beer bottle with a small quantity of beer still in the bottle. Joseph William Medley Jr., age 49 of Lexington Park, was charged on a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage. The driver of the pick up truck was issued a citation for driving on a suspended license.
