LEONARDTOWN, Md. (May 19, 2008) - St. Mary's County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael J. Martirano, has been elected president of the Washington Area School Superintendents Council (WASSC) for the 2008-2009 school year.
The WASSC is a group of 17 area superintendents from Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, the Archdiocese of Washington and Arlington, and 13 retired superintendents who meet once a month in Washington, D.C., to discuss current and relevant educational topics and issues.
"I am honored to have been selected president for the upcoming school year," said Dr. Martirano. "The professional development activities of the WASSC have been invaluable for all participating superintendents."
