Waldorf Man Arrested For Molotov Cocktail Arson

WALDORF, Md. (May 9, 2008) – Deputy State Fire Marshals on Friday, May 2, charged a 22 year-old man with intentionally setting fire to a vehicle. Investigators determined that Omar Brooks intentionally set fire to a 2001 Mitsubishi owned by Franklin Thomas.

The fire at 6324 Goral Court, Waldorf occurred on Friday, May 2, at 1:36 p.m.

The vehicle was parked at the owner’s residence when family members discovered the fire.

The Westlake Fire Department responded and quickly extinguished the fire.

The vehicle, valued at $4,000.00, was a total loss.

Deputy State Fire Marshals say they arrested Brooks without incident after he admitted to throwing a Molotov cocktail at the vehicles rear window. Having failed to break the glass, officials say Brooks then admitted to shattering the rear window with a brick and igniting rags on the rear seat of the passenger compartment.

Brooks was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond hearing with a Court Commissioner.
