LA PLATA, Md. (May 08, 2008)—On Monday, the Charles County Commissioners announced that Alex J. Naar was no longer employed as the Director of Emergency Services for Charles County. They also announced that they appointed William (Bill) Stephens as the interim director.
It was originally announced in early February that Naar would assume the position on March 10.
We wish him well in his future endeavors, and thank him for his contributions over the past few months, said Commissioner President Wayne Cooper in regards to Naar's departure.
Stephens began his association with Charles County in 2003 when he was hired as the Emergency Services Planner. In 2006, he became the Domestic Preparedness Coordinator, and was elevated to Acting Director of Emergency Services in January of 2008.
While employed with the City of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, he served as Risk and Emergency Manager where he coordinated response teams dealing with coastal storms and recovery situations.
Bill Stephens has the experience and knowledge to ensure that the department continues to operate efficiently and provide services to the citizens of Charles County during this transition, Commissioner Cooper said in a prepared statement.
