Hoyer To Host Foreclosure Prevention Workshop on Friday, May 9 in Waldorf

On-site Housing Services to be Available for Homeowners

WALDORF, Md. (May 01, 2008) – With homeowners distressed over the slumping housing market and mounting foreclosures, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.-5th) announced today that he will host a foreclosure prevention workshop to brief homeowners on their financing options and assist them in taking steps to avoid foreclosure. The workshop will be on Friday, May 9, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees located at 3090 Crain Highway in Waldorf.

Federal, state, and local housing experts, financial counselors and mortgage lenders will be on hand to provide on-site loan counseling, modification and assistance.

In addition, Hoyer will provide an update on housing legislation moving through Congress that will help struggling homeowners and restore some stability to the housing market. The House is expected to consider housing legislation the week of May 5.

“The housing crisis has gripped communities across the country and threatened the dream of homeownership for many,” stated Rep. Hoyer. “With so much at stake, it is critically important that citizens are aware of and utilize the resources available to them. The foreclosure prevention workshop is intended to give homeowners in our area direct access to the information and the services to help them and their families stay in their homes.”

Event organizers suggest that those planning to attend bring loan documents and other relevant financial information to the event in order to maximize time with counselors. To help ensure that enough counselors are available, Hoyer is requesting that people register their intent to attend through his website at http://hoyer.house.gov or by calling Ivana Alexander at 202-225-4131. Registration is not required to attend.
