LA PLATA, Md. (April 22, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
DRUG POSSESSION: On April 20 at 10:35 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs Officer J. Foster was stopped at the intersection of Old Washington and Leonardtown roads in Waldorf for a red light when he observed an automobile crash occur in the intersection. Officer Foster determined the occupants of the vehicles were uninjured but investigation revealed one of them, Oryan Mcelbert Bradley, 19, of Waldorf, was in possession of several packages of marijuana. The drugs had an estimated street value of $750. Bradley was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
ASSAULT: On April 18 at 12:56 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Brent Road in Waldorf for the report of an assault with a weapon. Investigation revealed the victim, a 30-year-old man, confronted a group of people attempting to fight an acquaintance in front of his residence. John Robert Bassett, 20, of Waldorf pointed a handgun at the victim. Bassett and the others fled the scene and the victim called police. Officers found Bassett a short time later, arrested him and charged him with first- and second-degree assault. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer C. M. Barrows investigated.
DOMESTIC ASSAULT: On April 18 at 1:27 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 10500 block of Beechwood Drive in Waldorf for the report of a domestic assault with a handgun. Investigation revealed a 44-year-old man pointed a handgun at a 52-year-old woman and hit her with an unknown object, knocking her unconscious. Officers arrested the man and charged him with first- and second-degree assault, using a handgun in commission of a felony and reckless endangerment. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. His name is being withheld to protect the victim. The victim was not seriously injured. Officer J. Riffle investigated.
DRUG POSSESSION: On April 18 at 12:40 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs Officer P. DeBoe stopped a vehicle on Annapolis Woods Road near Hilltop Road in La Plata for failing to stop at a stop sign. Investigation revealed the driver, Maurice Louis Morgan III, 42, of Welcome, was in possession of crack cocaine. He was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
BURGLARY: Sometime overnight between April 17 and April 18, a 16-year-old Waldorf boy forced entry into a vacant residence in the 4400 block of Eagle Court in Waldorf by throwing a rock through a glass door. He and Shawn Patrick Riley, 22, of no fixed address remained in the house overnight. They were discovered on April 18 at 11:24 a.m. when a woman arrived to show the residence to prospective renters. They fled the scene but officers found them shortly thereafter and arrested them. They were charged with third-degree burglary and destruction of property valued at less than $500. The juvenile was released to his mother and Riley was held at the Charles County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. Officer R. Johnson investigated.
DRUG POSSESSION: On April 10 at 7:06 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers found Cecil Jerome Adams, 51, of Bryans Road, in a vehicle parked in a lot on Hawthorne Road in Indian Head. Adams was wanted for failing to appear in court for a prior traffic offense. An investigation revealed Adams and a passenger, Paulette Yvonne Chase, 33, of Indian Head, were in possession of cocaine and marijuana packaged for distribution. They were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Adams was also served the warrant. Adams and Chase were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending appearances before the district court commissioner. Officer D. J.
