MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 22, 2008) - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) recently released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE: On Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 1:18 am, Tpr. J. Hardesty responded to the Leonardtown Barrack for the reported theft from motor vehicle. Contact was made with the female complainant who advised on April 6, 2008 between the hours of 3:35 pm and 11:00 pm unknown suspect(s) broke into her 2008 Hyundai car which was parked at the Outback Steakhouse restaurant in the 23000 block of Three Notch Road in California. The suspect(s) stole $200.00 cash in addition to taking a Bank of America credit card and a Capitol One credit card. The investigation is continuing.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 6:40 pm, Gregory Andrew Wilson Selph, 18, of Mt. Victoria was arrested by TFC P. Trossbach for possession of Marijuana and Prescription Medications (Oxycontin). TFC Trossbach initiated a traffic stop on a tan Toyota Camry on Route 238, south of Route 234 in Chaptico for failing to drive in a single lane. During the course of the traffic stop the rear passenger, Mr. Selph was found to be in possession of CDS paraphernalia, a multi colored glass smoking device with Marijuana, in addition to four Oxycontin pills. Mr. Selph was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

THEFT: On Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 1:04 am, TFC M. Moore responded to the WAWA Convenience Store at 21265 Great Mills Road in Lexington Park for the reported theft in progress. Upon arrival, contact was made with the female complainant who advised an unknown black male, approximately 5'09" and 180 lbs entered the store and stole a donation box from the store counter and fled out of the store to the rear of the establishment. The complainant advised the donation box contained between $100.00 and $500.00 in cash. At this time there are no known suspects and the investigation continues.

THEFT OF HANDGUN: On Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 4:15 pm, Tpr. M. Pitcher responded to the 39000 block of Mason Drive in Mechanicsville for the reported theft of a handgun. Upon arrival, contact was made with the male complainant who advised an unknown subject stole a Ruger, Model P-94, 9mm, serial # 30864057. The stolen gun has been entered into NCIC and the investigation continues.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 10:59 pm, Michael Allen Smith, 18, of Mechanicsville and two male Juveniles ages 15 and 16 were arrested by TFC P. Trossbach for possession of Marijuana and possession CDS Paraphernalia. Mr. Smith was operating a red Dodge Dakota when he was stopped for failing to drive right of center. During the course of the traffic stop, two clear baggies of Marijuana and three CDS smoking devices were recovered from the vehicle. The male juveniles were charged and released to their parent/guardian pending further action by Juvenile Services. Mr. Smith was taken to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

ASSAULT: On Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 6:58 pm, David Mark Hill, 37, of Leonardtown was arrested by Tpr. M. Pitcher for Assault 2nd Degree. Tpr. M. Pitcher responded to the 23000 block of Point Lookout Road in Leonardtown for the reported Disturbance. Upon arrival, contact was made with the male victim who advised he was assaulted by the suspect, David Mark Hill. Mr. Hill was also interviewed which resulted in him being taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review.

ASSAULT: On Monday, April 14, 2008 at 12:56 am, Joseph John Burger, 25, of Hollywood and Bobby Jake Herbert, 23, of Mechanicsville were arrested by TFC L. Nims for 3rd Degree Burglary. TFC L. Nims responded to the 30000 block of Point Lookout Road in Mechanicsville for a reported Assault in progress. Upon arrival, contact was made with the male complainant who advised he was inside his residence with friends when both Mr. Burger and Mr. Herbert came to the door and knocked. When the door was opened, they forced their way into the residence and assaulted another male inside the residence. The complainant advised the two suspects left the residence. They were later located at the residence of Mr. Herbert. They were taken into custody and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree. They were transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where they were detained pending a bond review.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 1:55 am, Gary Flowers, 35, of Leonardtown was arrested by TFC L. Nims for Malicious Destruction of Property over $500.00. TFC L. Nims responded to 22000 block of Washington Street in Leonardtown for the reported disturbance outside the establishment. Upon arrival, contact was made with the suspect, Mr. Flowers and an overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath. Mr. Flowers was interviewed concerning the damage done to tables outside the establishment. A female witness came forth and advised he broke the two patio tables and umbrella. Mr. Flowers was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 12:53 pm, Edward Wilson Auld, 5th, 20 of Great Mills was arrested by Tpr. N. Gresko for possession of Marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Auld was operating a black Toyota Scion on Route 235, south of Route 4 in California when he was stopped for an equipment violation. During the course of the traffic stop, Mr. Auld was found to be in possession of a clear plastic baggie of Marijuana and a multi colored glass smoking device. Mr. Auld was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Friday, April 18, 2008 at 7:13 pm, James Sherwood Davis, 3rd, 20, of Hollywood was arrested by TFC P. Trossbach for possession of Marijuana. Mr. Davis was operating a blue Ford Ranger when he was stopped at Clarks Landing Road and Mervell Dean Road in Hollywood for failing to drive in a single lane. During the course of the traffic stop, contact was made with Mr. Davis and a strong odor of burnt Marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. Mr. Davis was found to be in possession of a clear baggie of Marijuana and CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Davis was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 2:42 am, Alvin Maurice Hunter, 25, of Washington, DC was arrested by TFC P. Trossbach for possession of CDS, commonly known as Ecstacy. Mr. Hunter was a passenger in a red Nissan Altima when it was stopped on Route 245 at Leonard Hall Drive in Leonardtown for exceeding the posted speed limit. During the course of the traffic stop, contact was made with Mr. Hunter and a strong odor of burnt Marijuana was emitting from his person and the vehicle. Mr. Hunter was found to be in possession of three Ecstacy pills. He was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

ILLEGAL DRUGS, RESISTING ARREST, FUGITIVE: On Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 1:31 am, Richard Arthur Binger, Jr., 40, of Scotland was arrested by TFC P. Trossbach for DUI, possession of cocaine and resisting arrest and fugitive other area. Mr. Binger was operating a gray Ford F-150 south bound on Route 5 in Ridge when he was stopped for exceeding the posted speed limit. During the course of the traffic stop, contact was made with Mr. Binger and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath and person. Mr. Binger resisted arrest and was taken into custody. A search incident to the arrest revealed he was in possession of Cocaine. A routine check through NCIC/MVA revealed Mr. Binger had an outstanding warrant through the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office in addition to driving on a suspended and revoked driver's license. Mr. Binger was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he is being detained on $100,000.00 bond pending his court appear and release to the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office.
