HOLLYWOOD, Md. (April 4, 2008)—A St. Mary's County public school bus collided with the back of
a tractor-trailer truck around 12:22 p.m. on Friday. The school bus was occupied by the driver and a driver's aide. Both drivers and the aide were sent to area hospitals with injuries.
The accident occurred on northbound Maryland Route 235, prior to Mervell Dean Road, Hollywood, in St. Mary's County.
Police say a tractor-trailer hauling building supplies was slowing and signaling to turn right into Dean Lumber Supply in Hollywood. The school bus was also traveling northbound on Route 235 behind the tractor-trailer. The bus failed to control speed and collided into the back of the turning truck.
The driver of the bus, Kenneth Joseph Garner, 35, of Mechanicsville, was flown to Prince George's General Hospital in serious but stable condition.
The driver's aide, Mary Alice Gill, 45, of Dameron, and the tractor trailer driver, Charles Calvin Holland, Jr., 51, of Windsor Mill were transported to St. Mary's Hospital with incapacitating injuries.
Police say charges are pending at this time.
