Potentially Live Bombs Discovered at Air Museum


LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (April 1, 2008)—Potentially live military ordnance was discovered in donated military artifacts at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum Tuesday afternoon. The ordnance was discovered by an employee of the museum.

Ten local firefighters and Deputy State Fire Marshall William Potts responded to the museum warehouse. Personnel from the Patuxent River Naval Air Station also responded.

The museum and surrounding area was closed temporarily during the incident.

The items that were determined to contain explosives were returned to the military.

The museum is located at 22156 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, just outside Gate 1 of the air station.
