LA PLATA, Md. (March 26, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY: On March 25 at approximately 5:15 a.m., a suspect cut the lock to a gate at Absolute Pawn Brokers located at 3175 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf. The suspect fled the scene before gaining entry and without stealing any property. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777 or Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Officer C. Barrows is investigating.

BURGLARY: On March 25 at 9:15 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer J. Garner responded to a residence under construction in the 3400 block of Halford Street in La Plata for the report of a burglary. An investigation revealed suspect(s) forced entry into the residence through a rear sliding glass door sometime after 5 p.m. March 24. After removing the front door hinges and backing a vehicle up to the front door, the suspects stole several stainless steel kitchen appliances, loaded the stolen property onto the vehicle and fled the scene. CAR-JACKING ATTEMPT: On March 25 at 2 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer M. Smith was patrolling the 1000 block of St. Ignatius Drive when he observed three people fighting near a vehicle in a parking lot. Officer Smith took immediate action and stopped the fight. An investigation revealed the accused, a 14-year-old Suitland boy and a 15-year-old Washington, D.C. boy, approached the victim, a 42-year-old Germantown, Md., man, as he exited his vehicle. The accused, intending to steal the vehicle, assaulted the victim. The victim was attempting to fight off the accused when Officer Smith arrived. The accused were arrested and charged with attempted car-jacking and second-degree assault. They were detained at the Sheriff’s Office’s Court Holding Facility for a juvenile hearing.

THEFT: On March 19 at 7:14 p.m. Charles County Sheriff’s Officer R. Johnson responded to JC Penney located at 11130 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of a theft. An investigation revealed an employee provided clothing to three acquaintances without charging them and stole bed sheets. The employee, a 17-year-old Waldorf girl, was charged with theft valued at more than $500 and theft valued at less than $500. She was released to her mother. The investigation is ongoing.
