PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (March 24, 2008) - The Calvert County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
ILLEGAL DRUGS: On March 17 at 8:20 p.m. Dep. Ian Umphrey was working with Checkpoint Strikeforce in the area of Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick and observed a beer bottle inside a vehicle that was stopped for the checkpoint. Upon making contact with the driver, Larry P. Brown, 42 of Chesapeake Beach, Dep. Umphrey detected an odor of alcohol. After unsuccessfully attempting to complete several sobriety tests, Brown was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol and driving on a revoked license. A search incident to arrest revealed suspected crack cocaine. Brown was also charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
THEFT FROM VEHICLE: DFC Shawn Morder responded to the Calvert Animal Hospital on Skinners Turn Road in Owings on March 18 for a theft from vehicle call. The victim advised that she had parked her vehicle on the side of the building at 7:50 a.m. that day and when she returned to her vehicle at 2:50 p.m., unknown suspect(s) had broken the window and taken a Toshiba laptop computer and a Nano Ipod valued at $700. DFC Morder will continue the investigation.
THEFT AND DOP: Two mailboxes and their posts were stolen and another damaged on Hall Creek Lane in Owings during the overnight hours between March 18 and 19. Two large flowerpots had been damaged and were in the middle of the road. The stolen items total $200 and the total in damage is $160. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dep. THEFT, WEAPONS, DRUG PARAPHERNALIA: DFC John McCarroll responded to a theft report on Howes Road in Dunkirk on March 19th. The victim advised that the suspect had stolen numerous checks from her checkbook, made them out to himself and cashed them. The suspect was confronted about the theft by the victim but fled the residence. A lookout was posted but the suspect was not found at that time. On March 21 at about 3:00 p.m. DFC McCarroll observed the suspect in the area of Sam Hill Drive in Owings. He conducted a stop on the vehicle and subsequently arrested the driver, Joseph F. Collins, Jr., 19 of Dunkirk, on an open arrest warrant for theft. A search incident to arrest revealed a double bladed knife and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as several traffic violations.
DOP: Sometime between 10:00 p.m. on March 21 and 4:00 a.m. on March 22, unknown suspect(s) caused $275 in damage to a truck parked in front of a home on Dayton Ave in North Beach. DFC Thomas Tilley is investigating.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT: DFC John McCarroll responded to the Dunkirk WaWa to assist Dep. Jason Mitchell on March 22 at 1:15 a.m. A disorderly male was attempting to buy over the counter pain medication but had no money. He then approached several customers begging for money. He appeared to be intoxicated. He was removed from inside the store by Dep. Mitchell but once outside, the suspect, who had poor balance and the smell of alcohol on his breath, attempted to walk into traffic on Md. Rt. 4. DFC McCarroll arrived and approached the suspect, later identified as Reginald J. Manzie, 26 of Suitland, who could not advise what state of the country he was in. McCarroll subsequently arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct.
ILLEGAL DRUGS: On March 22 at 3:21 p.m. Cpl. Gary Shrawder conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding in the area of southbound Md. Rt. 4 and David Gray Road in Lusby. After obtaining consent to search, Cpl. Shrawder observed suspected marijuana in the driver's jacket pocket. The driver was identified as Eli M. Blush, 18 of St. Leonard. Cpl. Shrawder also located a clear baggie with suspected marijuana and a metal smoking device with suspected burnt marijuana inside the vehicle. Blush was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A passenger in the vehicle, Robert A. Blackwell, 20 of Port Republic, was also found to have suspected marijuana in his pocket. He was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana.
DOP: A victim reported to Dep. Sarah Koller that as he was driving his vehicle in front of the Sunoco gas station on Bayside Road in Chesapeake Beach on March 23 at 11:00 p.m., unknown suspect(s) threw eggs at him, one of them striking his car. He observed two juvenile males run from the scene. Dep. Koller attempted to locate the suspects but was unsuccessful. She will continue the investigation.
ATTEMPTED THEFT: On March 23 a victim on Lyons Creek Road in Dunkirk advised Dep. Jason Livingston that at 5:00 a.m. he observed an unknown white male dressed in black and wearing a white baseball cap inside his wife's vehicle, which had been left unlocked. The victim went to the vehicle and attempted to get the suspect out but could not. The victim then ran inside his home and the suspect fled the scene. Nothing appeared to be missing.
