DJ Mini Mart in Lusby Burns

LUSBY, Md. (Feb. 9, 2008)—The DJ Mini Mart located at 9470 HG Truman Road in Lusby sustained extensive damage due to a two-alarm fire last night just after 9 p.m. The damage is estimated at $450,000 and the building is believed to be a total loss.

Sixty firefighters from Solomons Island, St. Leonard, Prince Frederick, Bay District, and Hollywood took 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The fire was discovered by a passerby. According to Don Brenneman, State Fire Marshal, the building did not contain smoke alarms, fire alarms, or sprinklers.

The fire marshal believes the fire started in an exterior mechanical area. However, the exact cause is still under investigation.

The building was a one story framed convenience store. The building was vacant and in the process of being sold. The property is reportedly owned by Agnes Jefferson.
