LA PLATA, Md. (Feb. 7, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
CRITICAL MISSING PERSON: On Feb. 6 at 8:57 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to the parking lot of the Hughesville Womens Shelter located at 8395 Old Leonardtown Road in Hughesville for the report of a woman attempting to harm herself. When officers arrived, the 48-year-old Hughesville woman entered her vehicle, refused to exit and drove away recklessly. Officers pursued the vehicle on Route 231 to the Benedict Bridge. As she crossed the bridge, Calvert County Sheriffs officers blocked the roadway and prevented the woman from going any further. After struggling briefly with the officers, the woman was taken into custody and transported to Civista Medical Center for an emergency evaluation.
MISSING PERSON: On Feb. 5 at 2 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 5500 block of Moonfish Court in Waldorf for the report of a missing person. Investigation revealed George Edward Cox, 83, of Bloomingburg, N.Y., left his familys residence about 24 hours earlier in a White Buick Regal with New York tags CCN3223. He was headed toward Arlington National Cemetery but has not been heard from since. He is described as a fair-complexioned white male with gray balding hair. He is approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and has a thin build. He was wearing tan pants, a white dress shirt and a black tie with World War II replica medals on it. He is prescribed medication he may not have with him. THEFT: On Nov. 24 at 12:48 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs Officer M. Tyner responded to Funcoland located at 1210 Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf to locate property that had been stolen during a previous burglary of a residence in the 5700 block of Stuckey Road in Indian Head. Investigation revealed Leonard Darnell Mackall, 18, of Indian Head sold stolen property to the store in exchange for cash. Officer Tyner identified the suspect using the information the store required him to disclose on the receipt as part of the transaction. Officer Tyner recovered the stolen property from the store and charged Mackall with theft valued at less than $100.
ASSAULT: On Jan. 19 at 7:05 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Anton Court in Indian Head for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect had left the scene. Investigation revealed the suspect, a 22-year-old woman who has a relationship with the victim, arrived at the residence, became angry and struck him several times in the chest before fleeing the scene. The suspect was charged Jan. 28 with second degree assault. Her name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim. Officer M. Tyner investigated.
