LA PLATA, Md. (Feb. 5, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On Feb. 5 at 3:15 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs Officer E. Weaver stopped a Cadillac on Route 210 near Laurel Drive in Indian Head for a traffic violation. When Officer Weaver approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of marijuana. The officer discovered the drugs during a subsequent search of the vehicle. Avery Dwayne Lancaster, 20, of Bryans Road was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving a vehicle without current tags. Lancaster was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
BURGLARY: On Feb. 3 at 8:48 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs Officer J. Riffle was patrolling Gardiner Equipment located at 11740 Vernon Road in Waldorf when he discovered a shattered window. Investigation revealed suspect(s) backed a vehicle into the window and stole a Stihl cut-off saw from inside the store. The theft occurred sometime after 11:56 p.m. Feb. 2. HOME INVASION: On Feb. 3 at 6:28 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 3100 block of High Timber Court in Waldorf for the report of a home invasion. Investigation revealed a 34-year-old man was entering his residence when the suspect assaulted him. The suspect entered the residence and stole a television and money. He then fled the scene. HATE CRIME: On Jan. 31 at 12 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Piccowaxen Middle School located at 12834 Rock Point Road in Newburg for the report of a hate crime. Investigation revealed someone wrote a racially offensive phrase on a restroom wall.
