LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Jan. 14, 2008)—Rocco Aiello, a certified adapted physical education teacher serving students at Chopticon, Great Mills, and Leonardtown High Schools, has been named by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) as the Eastern District Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year.
The Eastern District of the AAHPERD is comprised of Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont, and the Virgin Islands.
In addition to working directly with students, Aiello acts as a resource to other physical education teachers in the system and is actively involved with community groups in preparing students with disabilities for an active lifestyle once they leave high school.
