LA PLATA, Md. (Jan. 3, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
ASSAULT: On Jan. 1 at 1:05 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 6000 block of Port Tobacco Road in Ironsides for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed a 25-year-old Ironsides man was intoxicated and began acting disorderly at a party hosted by the victim, the mans 29-year-old brother. When the victim took his brother home, an altercation ensued inside the residence. The accused obtained a shotgun and fired a round into the wall. The victim managed to gain control of the gun. The victim and accused continued to struggle outside the residence and a witness called 9-1-1. The Sheriffs Office arrived and the accused continued being combative with officers, who deployed a Taser to subdue him. The accused was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, first- and second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order and resisting arrest. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. No one was injured. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the victims identity. Officer W. Saunders investigated.
ROBBERY: On Jan. 1 at 12:10 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Dominos Pizza located at 371 B Smallwood Drive in Waldorf for the report of a robbery. Investigation revealed a male suspect hid near the building until he saw an employee unlock a side door and enter the business. He followed the employee inside and then assaulted the manager, robbed the business of an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene. Officers, including a K9 team, searched the area but the suspect was not located. The four employees inside the store at the time of the robbery were not injured. VEHICLE CRASH: On Dec. 31 at 4:36 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to the 7300 block of Hawthorne Road in La Plata for the report of a vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck was westbound on Hawthorne Road when the driver, a 16-year-old La Plata boy, became distracted while attempting to play a CD. The truck left the roadway and struck several mailboxes, one of which crashed through the windshield and struck the passenger, the drivers 9-year-old brother, in the head. The child was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Childrens Hospital, and his injuries were said to be non-life-threatening. The driver was not injured. Cpl. D.
