St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Jan. 2, 2008) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department released the following incident and arrest reports.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On Dec. 23, 2007 Dep. Chemko-Fahey responded to the parking lot of Advanced Auto Parts in Lexington Park for the report of a disorderly subject. Investigation revealed Margaret L. Turner, age 34, of No Fixed Address, was observed in an intoxicated condition, yelling, screaming and rolling on the ground. Ms. Turner was subsequently arrested, charged with Disorderly Conduct, transported to the Detention Center and incarcerated pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

COCAINE FOUND AFTER DWI ARREST: On Dec. 24, 2007 just after 8:00 PM, Deputy Harris arrested Steven Edward Thomas 49, of Lusby Maryland for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol on Three Notch Road, Mechanicsville, Maryland. A search incident to his arrest revealed he had cocaine and cocaine paraphernalia in his pants pocket. Thomas was charged with Driving under the Influence, Possession of CDS, and Possession of CDS paraphernalia. Thomas was transported to the Detention Center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT ARREST LEADS TO ASSAULT ON POLICE: On Dec. 24, 2007 at approximately 11:00AM Deputy First Class Carberry responded to Colton's Point Maryland for a reported Domestic Assault. The investigation revealed the suspect, Michael Jeffery McCurry, 25, of Colton's Point, Maryland had assaulted the victim during an argument. DFC Carberry and SDFC Butler attempted to place McCurry under arrest for the domestic assault, and he resisted. He was eventually arrested and placed into a police cruiser. While transporting the suspect to the Detention Center he became combative and started to kick to the cage area inside the cruiser. DFC Carberry and Butler stopped and attempted to restrain the suspect's legs and the suspect kicked DFC Carberry in the face and chest. He was successfully restrained, charged with two counts of Assault 2nd Degree (Domestic Assault and Assault on DFC Carberry) and Resisting Lawful Arrest and taken to Detention Center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

FUGITIVE ARREST: On Dec. 25, 2007 just after 10:00AM, Deputy Kevin Meyer observed a man walking in the travel portion of Great Mills Road in the area of Lore's Laundromat in Lexington Park, Maryland. Deputy Meyer stopped the subject to check his welfare. The suspect gave a false name, but Deputy Meyer utilized his in-car Mobile Data Browser (MDB) to locate a recent photo of the suspect and was able to positively identify him. The suspect, Joseph Cephas Harrod Jr., 46, of Lexington Park, Maryland was wanted on several open warrants and was placed under arrest. Search incident to his arrest revealed crack cocaine and paraphernalia. He was charged with Possession of CDS and CDS Paraphernalia and transported to the Detention Center where he was served with the open warrants. He is being held without bond.

THEFT UNDER $100: On Dec. 26, 2007 Dep. Reese and Cpl. Morley responded top a Theft complaint at Wal-Mart. Investigation revealed Dewayne A. Presgraves, Jr. age 28, of Lusby, Maryland entered the Wal-Mart and removed the store tag from a display item and exited the store failing to render payment for the item. Presgraves was subsequently placed under arrest and a search incident to the arrest revealed Presgraves was in possession of a prescription drug (Oxycontin) not prescribed to him. Presgraves was charged with Theft under $100 and Possession of CDS, transported to the Detention Center and incarcerated pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT OVER $500, FILING FALSE POLICE REPORT: On Dec. 28, 2007 Patrol units responded to the Mountain Mudd located in Charlotte Hall for the report of a Robbery. The clerk stated she had been robbed of the businesses proceeds by an unknown male subject riding a bicycle. Upon further questioning, the clerk stated she had been robbed by a subject in a silver motor vehicle then again changed the description to a subject on a motor cycle. Investigation by members of the Patrol Division and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations revealed the clerk, Kathy L. Reed, 18, of Mechanicsville had falsely reported the robbery and stole the business proceeds for her own use. Reed was arrested and charged with Theft over $500, False Statement to Police and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

POSSESSION OF DEADLY WEAPON: On Dec. 28, 2007 Dfc. Connelly responded to Valley Ct. Lexington Park for the report of a disturbance in the parking lot. Investigation revealed the suspect, Joseph M. Milburn, Jr., age 30, of Lexington Park was in possession of a deadly weapon (12 inch knife) and was placed under arrest. Milburn was charged with Possession of a Deadly Weapon and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Dec. 30, 2007 at approximately 11:49 PM Deputy Stone observed a vehicle fail to stay right of center and almost strike a curb. Deputy Stone activated his emergency lights and got behind the vehicle in an attempt to stop it. The driver, identified as Blackie Neil Jones, 20, of Bushwood, threw a bottle of beer out the passenger side window prior to stopping his vehicle off Hollywood Road in the area of Leonardtown Baptist Church. Deputy Stone contacted Jones, who was attempting to dispose of marijuana, by eating it. He was placed under arrest. Additional marijuana was recovered from his waistband search incident to his arrest. He charged with Possession of Marijuana and transported to the Detention Center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

JUVENILE CHARGED WITH MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT: On Dec. 31, 2007 just after 6:00 AM Senior Deputy First Class Margaret Smolarsky responded to a residence in Lexington Park for a reported motor vehicle theft. Investigation revealed the victim awoke to find her 1993 Plymouth Voyager missing along with a juvenile that was spending the night at her residence. Further investigation revealed the 17 year old male took the victim's keys and vehicle while she was asleep and drove to another residence in Lexington Park. The vehicle was recovered and the juvenile was arrested, charged with motor vehicle theft and released to the custody of his mother pending further action by the Department of Juvenile Services.

STABBING: On 01/01/08 at approximately 3:30 AM Senior Deputy First Class Margaret Smolarsky responded to the OCI Pub in Piney Point for the report of a stabbing. Investigation revealed the victim, John Robert Lee, 47, of Lexington Park, Maryland and suspect, Arthur Jerome Robinson 60, of Piney Point, Maryland, were involved in a fight inside the pub. During the fight, Robinson reportedly stabbed the victim in the side. A patron inside the pub broke up the fight and took the knife from the suspect, who fled the area. He was located a short time later, at his home in Piney Point and placed under arrest. He was transported to the Detention Center and charged with First Degree Assault. The victim was flown by helicopter to Washington Hospital Center for treatment. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Bobbi J. Cowart, 23, Lexington Park - Attachment for Contempt of Court, Baltimore County, arrested by Dfc. Young.

DWI ARRESTS:

George C. Haynes, 68, of Mechanicsville, Maryland was arrested by Dep. Stone

Tiffany C. Brys, 25, of Lexington Park, Maryland was arrested by Dep. Vezzosi

Gary T. Carr, 42, of Mechanicsville, Maryland was arrested by Deputy Reese

Brian Wayne Russell, 48, of Lexington Park, Maryland was arrested by Deputy George on Dec. 22, 2007 @2325 hours.

Steven Edward Thomas, 49, of Lusby, Maryland was arrested by Deputy Harris on Dec. 24, 2007 @2000 hours.

Keith Lee Honaker, 49, of Woodbridge, Virginia was arrested by DFC Kirkner on Dec. 24, 2007 @2316 hours.

Stephen Travis Hensen, 23, of California, Maryland was arrested by Deputy Watters on Dec. 25, 2007 @0104 hours.
