LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (Dec. 20, 2007) - Green Holly Elementary School has been named a National Title I Distinguished School and will receive recognition for this honor at the National Title I Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in January 2008.
Each year, the National Association of State Title I Directors (NASTID) recognizes two Title I Distinguished Schools from each state. The schools are selected for outstanding results in one of two categories: 1) Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years; or 2) Closing the achievement gap between student groups.
Of the 364 Title I schools in Maryland, Green Holly Elementary ranked number one in closing the achievement gap between student groups, based on the 2007 Maryland School Assessment (MSA) data.
Mrs. Karla Brown, principal of Green Holly, attributes the school's success to the focused and frequent collaboration of the grade level teams and instructional leadership team. The teams analyze student data to provide targeted instruction to meet the individual needs of all students.
