LA PLATA, Md. (Dec. 11, 2007) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
VEHICLE CRASH: On Dec. 7 at 2:19 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to St. Charles Parkway near St. Thomas Drive in Waldorf for the report of a vehicle crash. Investigation revealed Joshua Alan Elkins, 25, of Waldorf was traveling west on St. Thomas Drive in a Pontiac Grand Prix when he stopped and attempted to turn south onto St. Charles Parkway. Elkins failed to yield the right of way to a Freightliner box truck driven by Kenny Vernard Williams, 42, of Baltimore, who was traveling north on the Parkway. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded but neither driver was transported to a hospital. Officer S. Bryant is investigating.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD: On Dec. 7 at 6:01 p.m., an employee of Funcoland located at 11110 Mall Circle in Waldorf approached Officer R. Gottschall of the Charles County Sheriffs Office and reported one male suspect and one female suspect had entered Funcoland and attempted to purchase items with counterfeit credit cards. Investigation revealed those two suspects had also attempted to purchase items from GameStop, which is also in the mall. Officer Gottschall found the suspects in Dicks Sporting Goods, also in the mall, where they were standing in line to purchase two jackets. Officer R. Gotchall stopped the two suspects. A search revealed the suspects were in possession of six counterfeit credit cards and one counterfeit Washington, D.C., drivers license. Further investigation revealed the suspects also fraudulently purchased items from Forever 21 in the mall and from Wal-Mart located at 40 Drury in La Plata. Marisol Pineda, 33, of Silver Spring and Adebayo Adeji Folarin, 37, of Washington, D.C., were charged with four counts of theft valued at less than $500, theft scheme valued at more than $500 and 15 counts of related credit card fraud charges. Folarin was also charged with having false identification. Marisol and Folarin were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Cpl. VEHICLE CRASH: On Dec. 6 at 9:16 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Route 6 near Haldane Drive in La Plata for the report of a vehicle crash. Investigation revealed Adam Byrd Henderson, 61, of Port Tobacco lost control of the vehicle, which struck a curb, a fence and then a telephone pole. Henderson sustained critical injuries and was flown by Maryland State helicopter to Prince Georges Hospital Center, where his injuries are said to be non-life-threatening. The circumstances of the crash are under investigation but speed is considered a factor. Officer S. Stanley of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
