Maryland State Fire Marshall Reports


SOUTHERN MARYLAND (Dec. 3, 2007)—The Maryland State Fire Marshall investigated three local fires in recent days.

On Nov. 24 a 12' x 20' wood frame shed at a residence on Mitchell Road in La Plata caught fire causing an estimated $20,000 in damages. forty-one firefighters from La Plata, West Lake, Waldorf and Bel Alton responded and took 10 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The are of origin is undetermined and the preliminary cause is under investigation.

On Nov. 25 Brandon Pierce, 30, of Robert Morgan Place in La Plata was burning black powder when his clothing ignited. He was flown to the Washington Hospital Center by MSP Trooper 2 where he was being treated for 2nd degree burns to his upper body. His injuries are none life threatening.

On Nov. 25 12' x 12' wood frame shed on Old Bayside Road, Chesapeake Beach was set ablaze causing an estimated $2,000 in damages. Six firefighters from North Beach took 5 minutes to bring the fire under control.

According to the fire marshall, three youths were lighting paper next to the building. The case was referred to the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services for further action against the children.
