LA PLATA, Md. (November 26, 2007) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Nov. 25 at 11:10 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 11300 block of Golden Eagle Place in Waldorf for a citizen’s report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed a 48-year-old man was unlocking the door to his residence when he was approached by two male suspects who brandished handguns and demanded his wallet. The victim complied and the suspects fled toward Snow Owl Place. Officers, including a K9 team, searched the area but the suspects were not located. The suspects are described as white males approximately 20 years old and were wearing grey hooded sweatshirts and red hockey masks. No one was injured. ARMED ROBBERY: On Nov. 25 at 10:10 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a citizen’s report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed a 17-year-old boy was riding his bike in the 7100 block of Indian Head Highway when he was approached by one male suspect. The suspect brandished a pocketknife and demanded the bike. The victim complied and the suspect fled north on Indian Head Highway. The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-twenties. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. The bike is described as a black “BMX” with the word “Diamondback” written on the frame in red letters. The bike also has chrome wheels. POSSESSION OF COCAINE: On Nov. 24 at 6:30 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 7-11 located at 11575 Berry Road in Waldorf for a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival, officers discovered the accused, James Michael Russell, 23, and [name redacted], both of Waldorf, sitting in a vehicle parked in front of the store. A search of the vehicle revealed $1,152 in cash and a large amount of cocaine. Russell and [name redacted] were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and other related charges. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer E. Webster investigated.

HIT AND RUN: On Nov. 23 at 11:44 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Dash-In located at 5105 Indian Head Highway in Indian Head for the report of a hit and run. Investigation revealed a male suspect driving a Chevy Malibu drove through the front of the store, then backed out and fled the scene. Several witnesses were able to provide a description of the vehicle and the tag number. The vehicle was located at a residence on Empire Place in Marbury and the accused, Cortez D’Angelo Robinson, 19, of Washington. D.C., was identified as the driver and arrested. Robinson was charged with failure to stop after an accident with injury, failure to stop after an accident with property damage, driving without a license and negligent driving. Robinson was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. The crash caused extensive damage to Dash-In and one customer was injured. The victim was transported to Fort Washington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. S. Miller investigated.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Nov. 23 at 8:23 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Walgreens located at 25 High Street in Waldorf for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed a male suspect entered the store, presented a note to the pharmacist implying he had a handgun and demanded narcotics. The suspect then jumped over the counter and the pharmacist placed an undisclosed amount of narcotics in a plastic bag. The suspect took the bag and fled the scene. A store employee attempted to pursue him and a citizen observed the commotion and watched the suspect enter a vehicle. The citizen obtained the tag information and deputies traced the vehicle to the accused, who was identified as Eddie Castro, 46, of White Plains. Castro confessed to the robbery and the narcotics were recovered. Castro was charged with armed robbery, use of a handgun in commission of a felony, first-degree assault and theft valued at more than $500. Det. S. Fetterolf investigated.

DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED: On Nov. 18 at 9 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s off-duty Officer J. Clagett observed a suspicious vehicle on Wakefield Circle near Hackney Lane. Officer Clagett approached the vehicle and discovered the driver was intoxicated. Officer W. Halt responded to assist. Officer Halt conducted the field sobriety tests, which the driver failed. The driver, Terrence Lamont Robinson, 36, of Mitchellville, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while impaired. Robinson was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

VEHICLE CRASH: On Nov. 17 at 8:50 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 4800 block of Strauss Avenue in Indian head for the report of a single vehicle crash. Investigation revealed the driver, Furman Turrell Benjamin, 25, of South Carolina, ran off the road, struck several mailboxes, trees and a telephone pole, and ended up in a creek bed. Officers discovered Benjamin was intoxicated. Benjamin was flown to Prince George’s Hospital Center by a Maryland State Police helicopter for head injuries. The investigation is continuing.
