LEONARDTOWN, Md. (November 26, 2007) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
VICTIM CUT IN THE FACE DURING DOMESTIC: On Nov. 24 SDFC P. Handy responded to Lexington Park for a domestic assault in progress. Upon arrival he observed the victim, who had been slashed in the face with a knife. The suspect, identified as Linda M. Atkins, 45 of Lexington Park, reportedly cut the victim's face during an argument at the residence. The victim's injuries were not life threatening. The suspect was arrested and charged with first degree assault. She was transported to the Detention Center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.
DEPUTY CHARGES TWO IN DOG FIGHTING: Nov. 13 SDFC Handy responded to St. Inigoes for the report of two men fighting pit bulls in yard. Upon arriving in the area of the complaint, SDFC Handy observed a black and white pit bull suffering from fresh lacerations and appeared to be in a great deal of pain. Contact was made with suspect, Joseph Tyrone Maddox 21, of St. Inigoes, and suspect, Sydney Antwan Strain, 19, of Park Hall. SDFC Handy's investigation revealed these were the two men observed fighting the dogs earlier that day. Animal control officers were called to the scene and assisted in seizing the animals. Both men were charged (criminal summons) with arranging, conducting or using a dog to fight and abuse/neglect of an animal.
