Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (November 20, 2007) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

POSSESSION OF HANDGUN: On Nov. 18 at 8:50 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers observed a suspicious male standing on Rooks Head Place near Wakefield Circle in Waldorf and Officer T. Yates approached him. Officer Yates identified the man as Roy Montez Thompson, 27 of Waldorf, and while he was speaking to him, Thompson struck Officer Yates in the chest and fled on foot. Officer Yates pursued Thompson and apprehended him after a short foot chase. Investigation revealed Thompson was in possession of marijuana and a handgun. Thompson was arrested and charged with possession of a concealed deadly weapon, carrying a handgun, second-degree assault, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Nov. 18 at 12:03 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Lone Star Restaurant located at 11075 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed three men entered the restaurant after closing and confronted two employees while they were preparing the bank deposit. They bound both employees with duct tape and shocked them several times with a stun gun until one employee complied and gave them the combination to the safe. The suspects opened the safe, stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled out the back door. The victims were treated on the scene by Emergency Medical Services personnel for minor injuries. Officers, including a K9 team, searched the area but the suspects were not located. All three suspects were described as males wearing masks, gloves and dark clothing. They may have fled in a black and orange SUV. BURGLARY: On Nov. 18 at 2:28 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Hong Kong Buffet located at 3331 Plaza Way in Waldorf for an intrusion alarm. Investigation revealed suspect(s) shattered the glass to the back door and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and an HP laptop computer. The suspect(s) fled the scene through the same rear door. The manager of Hong Kong Buffet responded. Officers, including a K9 team, searched the area but did not locate any suspects. BURGLARY: Sometime between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Nov. 17, suspect(s) pried open the front door to Mattawoman Restaurant located at 5024 Hawthorne Road in Indian Head and stole various bottles of liquor and an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. Nothing else appeared to be damaged besides the front door and nothing else was missing. PROPERTY DESTRUCTION: On Nov. 17 at 6:33 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 4700 block of Hummingbird Drive in Waldorf for the report of property destruction. Investigation revealed Michael Jeffrey Lucero, 20, of La Plata and a 17-year-old La Plata boy were driving around and shooting vehicles with a paintball gun. The 17-year-old was charged as a juvenile with destruction of property and released to his parents. Lucero was charged with numerous traffic violations. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer D. Benthin investigated.

ROBBERY ARRESTS: On Nov. 13, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Holly Avenue in Pinefield for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed two victims were waiting in front of a residence for their friend when they were robbed at gunpoint by three males. Warrants were issued for the three suspects and they were arrested on Nov. 15 and 16. Darius Lane Hunter, 19, of Waldorf, Marcellus Ramone Freeman, 17, of Waldorf, and Darrin Winston Washington, 18, of Waldorf were charged with first- and second degree assault, armed robbery, and theft valued at less than $500. Freeman and Hunter were also charged with use of a handgun in commission of a felony. Freeman was charged as an adult. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Det. S. Fetterolf investigated.

STALKING/POSSESSION OF COCAINE: On Nov. 9 at 11:45 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Prentiss Place in Waldorf for the report of a protective order violation. Investigation revealed a 38-year-old Cheverly man parked in front of his estranged wife’s residence. He had been calling her and leaving messages for several weeks and several days earlier, he followed friends that left her residence and then he returned to her residence and remained outside. After receiving the report of the possible protective order violation, officers found the man on foot in the area of the victim’s residence and charged him with stalking. He was also charged with possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia after officers found a smoking device and crack cocaine in his possession. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. The accused’s name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
