Ridge Man Charged with Attempted Murder

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (November 11, 2007)—A Ridge, Maryland man is in jail after allegedly trying to kill another man at the A&E Motel in Lexington Park on Thursday night at approximately 10 p.m.

St. Mary's County police responded to the hotel after receiving a report of a disturbance and assault in a motel room. Upon arriving, officers located the suspect, Alan Kurtis Kohut, 27, in the room with the victim Thomas Alvin Campbell, Sr. Police say Campbell was lying on the floor with obvious head and facial injuries.

Police say Kohut threw items out of the room to keep onlookers and police at bay. Despite the attempts, he was taken into custody.

Police determined that Kohut had repeatedly beaten and kicked Campbell in the head and face in an attempt to kill him, after Campbell refused to give him money.

Kohut was charged by St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) detectives with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault, and attempted robbery.

Kohut was incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.

Campbell was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with serious head and facial injuries.
