St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Oct. 8, 2007) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

DUI, ELUDING POLICE: On 10/08/07 at approximately 2:40 a.m., SDFC Robert Merritt observed a vehicle operating with out a head light and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. When SDFC Merritt activated his police lights and siren the driver refused to stop and attempted to elude the pursuing officer. The driver abruptly stopped in a parking lot and ran on foot. SDFC Merritt exited his patrol vehicle and pursued the suspect, eventually capturing the driver, identified as Tyrone Allen Mason, 38, of Lexington Park. Mason was placed under arrest and charged with Driving Under the Influence, Attempting to Elude a Uniformed Police Officer by Failing to Stop, Operating an Unregistered Vehicle, Driving Uninsured and Driving on a Suspended License. Mason was transported to the Detention Center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On 10/05/07 Corporal Christopher Morley was patrolling the Fox Chase Apartment Complex when he observed a parking violation. As he approached to investigate, the occupants of the parked vehicle began to walk away. Corporal Morley smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the car. A passenger of the vehicle, identified as Kevin Anthony Kellis, 21, of Great Mills, was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Kellis was transported to the Detention Center pending a Bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

COCAINE, DUI: On 10/06/07 while conducting a premise check of the San Souci Plaza Deputy K. Nelson observed a vehicle squealing tires and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Shane Richard Weasenforth, 25, of Lexington Park. Suspect Weasenforth was asked to step from the vehicle to perform standard field sobriety tests. In doing so, he threw a package of suspected cocaine under his vehicle. Weasenforth was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Driving Under the Influence, Driving on a Suspended License and Failure to Display Registration on Demand. He was transported to the Detention center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

ASSAULT, DUI: On 10/05/07 Deputy Labrack responded to the area of Shangri La and Missouri Avenue in Lexington Park, for the reported assault. The investigation revealed the suspect, Joseph Kenny Morgan, 44, no fixed address, and the female victim, were involved in a verbal altercation, during which, the suspect attempted to strike the victim with his vehicle. The victim ran across the street and tried to jump into another vehicle to escape the suspect. Morgan pursued her on foot and physically assaulted the victim and then fled in a vehicle. While interviewing witnesses, Deputy Labrack observed the suspect driving in the area and gave chase. The suspect attempted to hide from Deputy Labrack but was apprehended and placed under arrest. Deputy Labrack discovered there was an active Protective Order in place preventing the suspect from contacting threatening or abusing the victim, and the registration plate on the vehicle he was driving was reported stolen. Morgan was charged with Assault First Degree, Assault Second Degree, Violation of a Protective Order, Theft under $100.00 and Driving Under the Influence and Driving on Suspended License. He was transported to the Detention Center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

COUNTERFEIT: On 10/05/07 DFC Worrey responded to the Canopy Liquor Store in Lexington Park for the counterfeit complaint. The suspect, Christopher Scott Lacey, 22, no fixed address, was arrested for attempting to pass a counterfeit $100.00 bill at the business. Lacey was transported to the Detention Center pending a bond review before the District Court Commissioner.
