PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (September 27, 2007)—A St. Leonard man is dead from a stab wound received Tuesday night. Just before 9:30 p.m. Calvert police responded to Ball Rd. in St. Leonard where they found Rodney Gray, Jr., 20, unresponsive from a stab wound to the chest.
Gray was transported to Prince George's Shock Trauma via Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 7. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after landing.
Police say that according to witnesses, a green 1998 Ford Explorer, occupied by 5 individuals, fled the scene in an unknown direction. Witnesses further identified Christopher Doran Whisman, 21, from Broomes Island as one of the five people. Whisman was said to be in possession of a knife.
When patrolling for the suspect vehicle, police observed five individuals exiting the wood line near the intersection of Broomes Island Road and Hance Road. The suspects entered a vehicle that was waiting for them. Police stopped the vehicle and transported all of the occupants to the Calvert County Sheriff's Office for questioning.
Police investigators learned that the occupants of the Explorer had gone to the Ball Road residence to settle a dispute when the physical altercation erupted. Due to statements given by witnesses and individuals involved in the altercation, Whisman was charged with Second Degree Murder, First and Second Degree Assault, and carrying a Dangerous Weapon.
Whisman was transported to Calvert County Detention center to await a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
