St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ACCIDENT CAUSED BY DUI DRIVER: On 9/16/07 Thomas Joseph Weaver of Leonardtown was operating a 2005 Suzuki motor cycle on Macintosh Road and was slowing for the stop sign on Macintosh Road at Hollywood Road (Rt. 245). Carl Lance Myers of Colton's Point was also southbound on Macintosh Road and failed to see that Mr. Weaver was slowing for the stop sign and stuck the rear of the motorcycle. The motorcycle went down on its side and was pushed by Mr. Myers' vehicle for a short distance. Mr. Weaver was flown to P.G. Shock Trauma by Trooper 7 and is in critical but stable condition. Mr. Myers was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The investigation is being conducted by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Reconstruction Team.

RETAIL THEFT: On 09/16/07 Deputies responded to the Auto Zone Store in Leonardtown for the report of a theft in progress. Investigation revealed that Joseph Michael Curtis (Age 43 of Lexington Park) had entered the store and was exiting with property that had not been paid for, when discovered by the store employee. Curtis refused to stop and flee. Deputy Timothy Butler apprehended Curtis a short time later and recovered the stolen property. Deputy Shaun Carberry arrested and charged Curtis with Theft.

ASSAULT: On 09/17/07 Deputies responded to the area of Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed that Michael Allan Gatton was driving to work and began arguing with his girlfriend. The argument escalated and Gatton assaulted his girlfriend. Gatton attempted to flee the area but was apprehended by deputies. Deputy Machael Harrison arrested Gatton and charged him with Assault in the Second Degree.

WEAPONS CHARGES: On 09/14/07 Deputy Shawn Cathcart observed a vehicle being operated by Luis Roberto Fuentes Diaz (Age 42 of Lexington Park) operating in an unsafe manner in the area of Route 235 in California. After stopping the vehicle the deputy observed a knife under Diaz's jacket. Once Diaz was removed from the vehicle and arrested for concealing a deadly weapon, a search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9mm handgun along with a 20 gauge shotgun. Diaz was charged with additional weapons charges and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center.

WARRANT ARREST: On 09/12/07 Deputies were in the area of Lexwood Court to attempt a Warrant Service on John Terell McCleod (Age 24 of Lexington Park). Deputies observed McCleod standing out front of a residence, then enter at their approach. Once deputies knocked on the door of the residence, Tashibra Nichole Briscoe (Age 28 of Lexington Park) and Rejon Eugene Briscoe (Age 25 of Lexington Park) opened the door. Both Rejon and Tashibra Briscoe attempted to prevent deputies from taking McCleod into custody. All three suspects were placed under arrest by Deputy Keith Moritz.

TRESSPASSING: On 09/13/07 Deputy Shawn Moses was conducting a theft investigation at the Sheetz Store in Great Mills. During this time he was approached by Floyd Delbert Keller the 3rd (Age 29 of Lexington Park). Keller who was not involved in the theft began to disrupt the investigation for no known reason. The store manager ordered Keller to exit the property, but Keller refused to follow instructions from the store manager or Deputy Moses. Deputy Moses arrested Keller and charged him with Tresspassing.

DUI: On 09/13/07 Deputy James Stone observed a vehicle pull into the parking lot of a business in the Lexington Park area that was closed. Deputy Stone made contact with the operator of the vehicle to investigate the operator's actions. At this time Deputy Stone was able to detect an odor of alcohol and requested the operator to exit the vehicle. After unsuccessfully completing several sobriety tests the operator, Alexander Michelsen (Age 18 of Davidsonville, Maryland) was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol. Michelsen was also found to be in possession of marijuana and additional charges were added.

DWI: On 09/15/07 Deputy James Stone responded to the area of McIntosh Road and Hollywood Road for a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a passenger car. Investigation revealed that a passenger car being operated by Carl Lance Myers (Age 46 of Colton's Point), struck a motorcycle, resulting in life threatening injuries to the motorcyclist. Deputy Stone detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Myer's breath. Myers has been charged with Driving While Impaired by Alcohol. Addition charges are pending while awaiting the results of a blood test that Myers agreed to take.

SCHOOL ALTERCATION: On 09/07/07 two male juveniles were involved in an altercation at Chopticon High School. Investigation by Sdfc. A. Holton revealed the two juveniles, age 14 and 17, initiated a physical altercation which caused a disruption in the schools activities. Both Juveniles were arrested, charged with Assault Second Degree, Disruption of School Activities, and released to their parents pending a court appearance.

THEFT: On 09/10/07 Sdfc. A. Holton arrested a 15 year old juvenile and charged him with Theft under $100. Investigation revealed the 15 year old juvenile had stolen a cell phone from a teachers desk at Great Mill's High School and sold the phone to another subject for $20.00. The juvenile was released to his guardian pending a court appearance.

ELECTRICAL METER TAMPERING: On 09/12/07 Deputy R. McCoy served Steven V. Shaffier, age 29, of Leonardtown with a Criminal Summons charging him with Theft under $100.00 and Tampering with an Electrical Meter.

DRIVING WHILE SUSPENDED: On 09/12/07 Dfc. K. Moritz located and arrested John T. McCleod, Age 24, of Lexington Park on an outstanding arrest warrant for Assault Second Degree and two counts of Driving While License Suspended. McCleod was transported to the Detention Center where he was being held under No Bond.

FAILURE TO APPEAR: On 09/13/07 Deputy J. Maguire arrested Karen J. Grumbine, age 45, of Lexington Park and Kenneth A. Grumbine, age 19, Of Lexington Park, on an outstanding Circuit Court Warrant for Failure to Appear in court as directed. Both were incarcerated in the Detention Center under a preset bond amount.

WARRANT ARREST: On 09/13/07 Deputy J. Stone located and arrested Ryan M. Tippett, age 18, of Leonardtown on an outstanding arrest warrant for Failure to comply with a Peace Order and Telephone Misuse. Tippett was incarcerated in the Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT ARREST: On 09/12/07 Sdfc. R. Maloy served Kevin P. O'Connor, age 43, of Leonardtown with a Circuit Court Indictment charging O'Connor with Burglary-First Degree, 3 Counts of Theft over $500 and 1 Count of Theft under $500. O'Connor was incarcerated in the Detention Center under No Bond.

WARRANT ARREST: On 09/12.07 Sdfc. R. Maloy served Marquitta N. Dyson, age 19, of no fixed address, with an outstanding arrest warrant for Theft Scheme over $500 and Theft under $500. Dyson was incarcerated in the Detention Center under No Bond.

WARRANT ARREST: On 09/13/07 Deputy C. Byrd served Amanda L. Abell-Morgan, age 25, of Hollywood with an outstanding arrest warrant for Violation of Probation. Abell-Morgan was incarcerated in the Detention Center under No Bond.
