LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

VEHICLE CRASH: On Aug. 24 at 7:43 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer J. Vaino was traveling south on Route 301 near Billingsley Road in her patrol car when she struck the back of a Ford van stopped at a red light. No one was injured. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

HATE CRIME: On Aug 24 at 4:08 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Rabbits Run Street in Waldorf when a resident reported her vehicle had been spray painted and her mailbox had been damaged. Upon arrival, officers discovered other damaged vehicles and mailboxes in the Wexford Village neighborhood. The suspect(s) vandalized about 16 vehicles, mailboxes and driveways by spray painting obscene phrases, drawings and other random markings. They spray painted “KKK” and “Gay Pride” on four of the vehicles. The suspect(s) used black spray paint. Because of the offensive nature of the crime, the Sheriff’s Office is investigating all these as hate crimes.
