Jerry Douglas Tasker, 24, of Montgomery County, and Ryan Howard Baird, 19, also of Montgomery County, were arrested on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 in Falls Church, Virginia and charged with the Bayfront Park thefts in Chesapeake Beach, Md.
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (August 24, 2007) - Yesterday, Calvert County police ended a month-long investigation into numerous break-ins and purse thefts from parked vehicles at Bayfront Park in Chesapeake Beach. The thieves used the victim's credit cards to make purchases at Target Stores in Prince George's and St. Mary's County. The total amount of thefts and damages to the vehicles is over $25,000.
Ryan Baird, 19, of Montgomery County, and Jerry Tasker, 24, also of Montgomery County, were identified as the suspects. Baird and Tasker were caught on store video surveillance, and with help from local media and the public, were identified. Six Crime Solvers tips were received which provided information on their whereabouts and identity.
With the assistance of the Fairfax County Police, Mason Station Detectives, a search warrant was executed at Tasker's ex-wife's residence in Falls Church, Virginia, where Baird was found sitting on a couch and Tasker was located hiding under a bed. Both were taken into custody without incident.
Tasker and Baird are being held in Virginia on fugitive charges and are awaiting an extradition hearing. The warrants in Maryland are for Theft over $500, Theft under $500, Theft Scheme, MDOP under $500, and Theft of Credit Card.
