LA PLATA, Md. - Two members of the Charles County Sheriffs Office Corrections Pistol Team placed in the top ten in the International Defensive Pistol Association West Virginia Pistol Match held Saturday, July 28. Sgt. H. Bowling took third place and Correctional Officer J. Arcadipane took sixth.
The match consisted of 10 shooting scenarios using concealment, cover, shooting on the move, shooting from behind cars and one indoor low-light course of fire. The course of fire is based on realistic possibilities. The shooter is restricted to a maximum of 11 rounds in their weapon, equal to most conceal carry weapons, but changes if the participant is shooting in a revolver class.
Arcardipanes sixth place win was in the stock service pistol marksmen division. Sgt. Bowling earned third place in the stock service pistol sharpshooter division.
Nobody knew what to expect out of this match. It was the first time either of us had been at this range and the first time they have hosted a state championship, said Sgt. Bowling. Overall, this was an exciting match that was well worth the trip and we will be looking forward to competing in it next year.
