St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department released the following incident and arrest reports.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from the Maryland State Police and St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to an armed robbery at the Movie Gallery in Charlotte Hall. The investigation revealed that three white males wearing black ski masks entered the store, brandished knives and demanded money from the store employee. The suspects then fled the area with an undisclosed amount of money in a light colored Cadillac Escalade. The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) is currently investigating the incident. SELLING ALCOHOL TO A MINOR: On Saturday, July 14, 2007, Senior Deputy First Class D. Ross and Senior Deputy First Class Emory Johnson of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office with the aid of a twenty year old confidential informant, conducted an Underage Controlled Buy Operation For Alcohol at various alcohol retail establishments in St. Mary's County. The informant was taken to seventeen establishments where she was instructed to enter the establishment and attempt to purchase an alcoholic beverage.

Four establishments were cited for furnishing an alcoholic beverage for consumption to a person known to be under the age of twenty one. Thirteen establishments refused to sell to the under aged informant.

The Four establishments that sold an alcoholic beverage to a person under twenty one were: Cook's Liquors in Park Hall, Prices Quality Liquors in Great Mills, Russell's Store in Valley Lee, and The Country Store in Medley's Neck.

The establishments that did not sell to an underaged person were: St. James Deli, The Rod N Reel, Rick's Marine, Raley's Town and Country Market, Scheibles Restaurant, Courtney's Restaurant, Boatman's Restaurant & Sports Bar, St. Mary's Fine Wine and Spirits, International Beverages, Deli & Cadilac Jacks, The Stop N Shop, Discount Tobacco and Convenience, W.J. Dent and Sons, DJ's One Stop.

The employees that made the sales were issued citations for furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a person under twenty one. The establishments that the sales were made at will be summonsed to the Alcohol Beverage Board for review.
