WASHINGTON - The Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad Co. #79 in St. Mary's County has been awarded a total of $52,106 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP).
The Volunteer Rescue Squad will use its funding to provide physicals for all members and institute a physical fitness program for the department. In addition, the department will purchase 35-40 sets of boots and gloves that will protect members from blood borne pathogens.
AFGP grants fund firefighting equipment, personal protection equipment, training, firefighting vehicles, firefighter/first responder safety projects, and staffing recruitment and retention. Since 2001, Maryland fire departments and fire service organizations have received approximately $48.3 million through the AFGP.
