Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ASSAULT: On July 22 at 10:10 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Kenrick Court and Thompson Lane in Indian Head for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed Kenneth Edward Groves, 44, of Indian Head left a note on a 32-year-old Indian Head man’s doorstep regarding complaints about the man’s dogs. The man confronted Groves and Groves grabbed him by the throat and threw him off the property. During the officers’ investigation, Groves became disorderly and was arrested without further incident. No one was injured. Groves was charged with second-degree assault and disturbing the peace. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer C. Stufft investigated.

WARRANT SERVICE: On July 22 at 1:55 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer J. Clagett responded to a residence in the 7300 block of Hawthorne Road in La Plata and observed Victor Emanuel Savoy, 23, of La Plata, who was wanted by the Sheriff’s Office for armed robbery, run from the house into the woods. Additional officers responded and established a perimeter. They observed Savoy running across a field and apprehended him without further incident. Savoy was charged with armed robbery and violating probation. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer C. Stufft investigated.

RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT: On July 21 at 2:30 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer A. St. Germaine and Cpl. S. Brown were conducting a traffic stop when they heard gunshots fired near Legends located nearby at 1290 Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf. Officers responded and investigation revealed a Chevrolet Tahoe was involved in the shooting and no one had been injured. Officers quickly located the Tahoe on Smallwood Drive at Mall Circle and attempted to stop it but the driver refused to stop until reaching Lancaster Circle at Bluebird Drive. The driver, Arthur Bernard Thompson, III, 25, of Waldorf, was immediately apprehended. The passenger, Tremayne Fionn Hendricks, 32, of Waldorf, exited the vehicle but was quickly apprehended. During a search, officers found two 9mm bullets in Hendricks’ possession which matched the shell casings found in the parking lot of Legends. Thompson, who was intoxicated, was charged with driving while impaired, driving under the influence and negligent driving. Hendricks, who investigation revealed fired the shots at Legends, was charged with reckless endangerment. Thompson and Hendricks were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. The handgun was not located. Officer D. Major investigated.
