LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department released the following incident and arrest reports.

ASSAULT: On July 15 at 4:19 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 5000 block of Preston Lane in Pomfret for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed Robert Louis Penny, Sr., 79, of Pomfret and a 60-year-old man with no fixed address were arguing when Penny brandished a gun and threatened to shoot the victim. The victim left the scene with two other female witnesses and called 9-1-1. Officers responded to the residence and recovered the gun. Penny was charged with first-degree assault. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer J. Plunkett investigated.

HATE CRIME: On July 15 at 1:20 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 7100 block of Poorhouse Road in Pisgah for the report of a hate crime. Investigation revealed suspect(s) poured white paint and spray-painted obscene words and “payback” on two vehicles. The suspect(s) also spray-painted “We hate white people” and other vulgar words on the driveway and flattened the tires on both vehicles. The approximate damage to the property is $2,000. Officers searched the area but did not find the suspect(s). CONCEALED DEADLY WEAPON: On July 14 at 10:32 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Sheehy Nissan located at 2950 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of an employee with a gun. Investigation revealed the employee had recently quit. He had arranged to return to the business and employees discovered he had a gun with him. Officers arrived on the scene and located the suspect and the gun, which was concealed in a bookbag. Dickie Lee, 28, of Lexington Park was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a handgun. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer J. Freeman investigated.

ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY: On July 14 at 4:10 a.m., a 50-year-old Waldorf man was delivering newspapers and was on foot in the 2200 block of Hope Circle in Waldorf when a male suspect exited a parked black SUV and approached the victim. The suspect brandished a long rifle, cocked it and demanded money. After the victim showed the suspect he had no money and had only newspapers in his truck, the suspect let him go. The victim fled the scene in his vehicle and the suspect fled in an unknown direction. Officers, including a K9 team, searched the area but did not locate the suspect. The suspect is described as a black male, is 5 feet 5 inches tall and has a thin build and a medium complexion. He was wearing a blue football jersey and a white hat. ROBBERY: On July 14 at 12:45 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 100 block of Riverside Run Drive in Indian Head for the report of a robbery. Investigation revealed the victim, a 42-year-old Waldorf man, was walking when he was approached by four male suspects who demanded money. The victim refused and the suspects beat him with a bat and their fists, stole an undisclosed amount of money from his pockets and fled the scene. The victim was transported to Ft. Washington Hospital Center for treatment of his injuries. The suspects are described as black males. Two of the suspects, one who was wearing a red ball cap, are 6 feet tall and have heavy builds. The other two were described as being short. THEFT: On July 12 at 4:22 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to CVS Pharmacy located at 3855 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf for the report of a theft of over-the-counter medications. After a lookout was broadcast, Cpl. J. Hastings located the suspect vehicle turning off of Mattawoman Beantown Road in Waldorf. The suspect vehicle turned onto Cedarville Road and stopped, and the two occupants were arrested without incident. During a search of the car, officers recovered the stolen medication and further investigation revealed the same suspects stole medication from that CVS on June 23. The driver and the passenger were also found to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. The driver, David Edward Donald Sheppard, 33, of Annapolis, and the passenger, Jack Brian Rhudy, 30, of Baltimore, were charged with theft valued at more than $500, conspiracy to commit theft valued at more than $500 and possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer M. DePaulo investigated.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On July 12 at 12:20 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 3000 block of Sedgewick Drive in Waldorf for the report of suspicious behavior. Upon arrival, two individuals ran into the woods. The accused were located and Trevante Jeber Smoke, 22, of Ft. Washington, was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer R. Kimble investigated.

ASSAULT: On July 11 at 11:03 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 9200 block of Mona Farm Place in La Plata for the report of a stabbing. Investigation revealed the victim, a 44-year-old man, was stabbed in the upper body by his wife during an argument. The victim was flown to Prince George’s Hospital Center. The suspect fled prior to officers’ arrival but officers located her the following day and arrested her. She was charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. The victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. Officer W. Saunders investigated.
