HUGHESVILLE, Md. - The Margaret Brent High School Alumni Association (MBHSAA) announced last week that they awarded scholarships of $1,500 each to four high school seniors for their 2006-2007 school year. Laura Russell of Chopticon H.S., Dennis Pilkerton of Chopticon H.S., Allison Shafer of Leonardtown H.S., and Brooke Whyte of Lee's Summit H.S. of Missouri all received scholarships.
The four students are direct descendants of Margaret Brent High School alumni who attended the school between 1931 and 1965. In 1965, the high school became what is now the Margaret Brent Middle School.
The MBHSAA has been awarding scholarships each year since 1990. According to Grace Bolton, Trustee, the association was founded for this purpose.
