LA PLATA, Md. - Kevin Mark Warren was arrested Friday, July 6 at 10:40 p.m. for the murder of 13-year-old Briona Jasmine Porter.
On Friday, June 29 about 11:27 p.m., Briona Porter was shot and killed while she was with her mother and aunt on a family-owned ice cream truck on Robinson Place in Waldorf. The accused approached the truck and announced a robbery with a handgun. During the robbery, the accused fired several shots into the ice cream truck, striking the victim in the back. The victim was transported by helicopter to Childrens Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where she died about an hour after the shooting.
Sheriffs homicide detectives developed Warren as the suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest the evening of June 30. Since that time, the Sheriffs Office has undertaken a manhunt for Warrens whereabouts. Detectives have searched numerous locations in Charles County, Prince Georges County, Washington, D.C. and Virginia for Warren within the past several days.
Sheriffs Deputies received an anonymous tip Warren was in a black Dodge Ram pick-up truck traveling in the Waldorf area. Uniformed deputies stopped the truck in the 3700 block of Leonardtown Road in Waldorf and found Warren to be a passenger in the truck. Warren was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Charles County Sheriffs Office Headquarters.
The driver of the pick-up truck was interviewed by homicide detectives and released.
Warren was charged with first- and second-degree murder, armed robbery and use of a handgun in a commission of a felony/crime of violence. Warren was being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review.
