CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (July 7, 2007) - It has been a very bad year for motorcyclists in So. Maryland. Several riders have died on local roads in recent weeks. A Calvert County man died in St. Mary's County this past Sunday in a lone vehicle accident. Yesterday, a Bryans Road man suffered a broken neck when his motorcycle struck a vehicle driven by a 67 year-old woman who turned in front of him.
The accident occurred at southbound Maryland Route 210 near Matthews Road, Charles County, Maryland. Police say a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by Sharon Leta Glisson, 67, of Waldorf, turned left into the path of a 2005 Suzuki GSX motorcycle driven by Abraheim Mohamed Zarti, 21, of Bryans Road. Zarti collided into the rear quarter panel of Glisson's Camry. The impact ejected Zarti who sustained fatal injuries.
Police say the determining factor in the accident is Glisson's failure to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming vehicle. The investigation is being conducted by troopers from the La Plata State Police Barrack.
